4. Installation

IMPORTANT: Turn off power to the HVAC system at the circuit breaker before beginning installation.

4.1 Mounting Location

Install the thermostat on an inside wall, approximately 5 feet (1.5 meters) above the floor. Avoid locations near heat sources (lamps, sunlight, fireplaces), cold drafts (windows, doors), or areas with poor air circulation.

4.2 Removing Old Thermostat

  1. Ensure power to the HVAC system is OFF.
  2. Remove the cover of your old thermostat.
  3. Take a picture of the existing wiring connections for reference.
  4. Label each wire with the terminal designation it was connected to (e.g., R, G, Y, W).
  5. Disconnect the wires and remove the old thermostat base from the wall.

4.3 Wiring the T1050

The T1050 is designed for 24V AC systems. Refer to the detailed wiring diagrams provided in the separate installation manual included with your product. The back of the thermostat provides access to the wiring terminals.

5. Setup and Programming

After installation and power-up, the thermostat will display the current room temperature. You will need to set the time, day, and program your desired schedule.

5.1 Initial Configuration

  • Setting Time and Day: Use the specific buttons (refer to the detailed manual for exact button labels) to adjust the current time and day of the week.
  • Temperature Unit: The display can be switched between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C). Consult the full manual for the procedure to change this setting.

5.2 Programming the 5+2 Day Schedule

The T1050 allows for separate programming for weekdays (5 days) and weekends (2 days), with up to 4 time periods per day (e.g., Wake, Leave, Return, Sleep). Each period can have its own heating and cooling setpoints.

  1. Enter programming mode (refer to the full manual for button sequence).
  2. Select the day(s) to program (e.g., Monday-Friday).
  3. For each time period (e.g., Wake):
    • Set the start time.
    • Set the desired heating temperature.
    • Set the desired cooling temperature.
  4. Repeat for all 4 time periods for the selected days.
  5. Repeat the process for Saturday and Sunday.
  6. Exit programming mode to save settings.

All programming and setpoints are stored in non-volatile memory, meaning they will not be lost during a power failure.

5.3 Thermostat Locking

The thermostat features a locking function to prevent unauthorized adjustments to setpoints. When activated, only individuals with the correct access can modify temperature settings. Refer to the detailed manual for instructions on enabling and disabling this feature.

6. Operation

Operating the Venstar T1050 is straightforward with its large display and soft buttons.

  • AUTO: The thermostat will automatically switch between heating and cooling to maintain the desired temperature range (auto changeover).
  • OFF: Both heating and cooling systems are turned off.

The Red/Green LED indicator will illuminate red when the system is actively heating and green when actively cooling.

6.2 Fan Operation

Press the FAN button to cycle through fan modes:

  • AUTO: The fan runs only when the heating or cooling system is active.
  • ON: The fan runs continuously, regardless of whether the heating or cooling system is active.

Use the UP (▲) and DOWN (▼) arrow buttons to adjust the desired heating or cooling temperature setpoint. In AUTO mode, both heating and cooling setpoints will be displayed and can be adjusted.

Temporary adjustments will hold until the next programmed time period begins. To permanently override the schedule, you may need to enter a hold mode (refer to the full manual).

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning the Thermostat

To clean the thermostat, gently wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or chemical sprays, as these can damage the plastic or electronic components.

7.2 Air Filter Reminder

While the T1050 does not have a built-in filter change reminder, it is recommended to regularly check and replace your HVAC system's air filter according to the manufacturer's guidelines. A clean filter ensures optimal system performance and air quality.
