3. Power Connection

The AR-M6 requires a 13.8V DC power source. The provided power cable has bare wires for direct connection.

  1. Identify Power Source: Connect the red wire to a positive (+) 13.8V DC power source (e.g., vehicle battery or fuse box with an accessory circuit).
  2. Identify Ground: Connect the black wire to a reliable vehicle ground point (-).
  3. Secure Connections: Ensure all power connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent short circuits.

Note: It is recommended to install an inline fuse (not included) on the positive power line for protection.

4. Microphone Connection

Plug the handheld microphone's connector into the microphone jack on the front of the radio unit. Ensure it clicks into place securely.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off and Volume Control

  • Turn the VR (Volume) knob clockwise to power on the radio and adjust the listening volume.
  • Turn the VR (Volume) knob counter-clockwise until it clicks to power off the radio.

2. Channel Selection

  • Use the CH Up (▲) and CH Down (▼) buttons on the radio's front panel to select the desired communication channel (1-40).
  • The selected channel number will be displayed on the LCD.

3. Squelch Control (SQ/ASQ)

Squelch eliminates background noise when no signal is being received.

  • Automatic Squelch (ASQ): Turn the SQ (Squelch) knob fully counter-clockwise to activate Automatic Squelch. This setting automatically adjusts the squelch level.
  • Manual Squelch: Turn the SQ (Squelch) knob clockwise from the ASQ position until the background noise disappears. This sets the squelch threshold manually.

8. CTCSS/DCS (Tone Squelch)

CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and DCS (Digital Coded Squelch) are sub-audible tones that allow you to filter out unwanted conversations and only hear transmissions from users who are using the same tone code.

  • Press the TSQ button (part of the TSQ/EMG button) to cycle through CTCSS/DCS settings.
  • Use the CH Up/Down buttons to select the desired CTCSS tone (38 available) or DCS code (104 available).
  • To disable CTCSS/DCS, select the "OFF" option.
  • Note: CTCSS and DCS are typically only available in FM mode.

9. Keypad Lock

  • The radio features a keypad lock to prevent accidental changes to settings. Refer to the specific instructions in the included manual for activating and deactivating the keypad lock, as this function is often combined with other buttons (e.g., long press of a specific button).

10. Full Channel Scan

  • The radio can scan all 40 channels for activity. Consult the included manual for the specific button combination or menu option to initiate and stop the channel scan function.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the radio's exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Antenna Care: Regularly check the magnetic mount antenna for secure placement and inspect the cable for any damage. Keep the antenna base clean to ensure good electrical contact.
  • Connections: Periodically check all cable connections (power, antenna, microphone) to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Storage: If storing the radio for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a dry, cool place.
