5. Setup and Wiring

Proper wiring is crucial for the safe and correct operation of the XY-BLDC module. Refer to the diagram below for connection points.

Figure 5.1: Connection terminals on the XY-BLDC module.

5.1 Power Connection

  • Connect your DC power supply (12V-30V) to the POWER terminals. Ensure correct polarity: + for positive, - for negative.

5.2 Motor Connection

  • Connect the three phase wires of your BLDC motor to the MOTOR terminals (U, V, W or similar markings).
  • Connect the Hall sensor wires from your BLDC motor to the J2 terminals (GND, HC, HB, HA, +5V). Ensure correct matching of Hall sensor outputs to the corresponding inputs on the board.

5.3 Speed Control Input

The module supports two methods for speed control:

  • PWM Control: Connect an external PWM signal (5V amplitude, 1K-10KHz recommended frequency) to the PWM input terminal.
  • Analog Control (0-5V):
    • External Potentiometer: Connect a 10K-100KΩ potentiometer between the on-board 5V and GND pins, with the wiper connected to the AN input.
    • External Analog Voltage: Input a 0-5V analog voltage to the AN terminal. Ensure the external analog source shares a common ground with the module.

5.4 Direction Control (EN)

  • The EN (Enable/Direction) pin controls the motor's rotation direction. Refer to the module's specific pinout for details on how to switch between positive and negative rotation. Typically, a high/low signal or connection to a specific voltage level will control direction.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On

  • After all connections are securely made, apply power to the module within the 12V-30V range.

6.2 Speed Adjustment

  • Using PWM: Vary the duty cycle of the PWM signal applied to the PWM input. A higher duty cycle generally corresponds to higher motor speed.
  • Using Analog Voltage: Adjust the 0-5V analog voltage applied to the AN input. A higher voltage typically results in higher motor speed.

6.3 Direction Control

  • Toggle the state of the EN pin to switch between forward and reverse rotation of the motor. Consult the module's specific pinout for the exact logic levels required.

6.4 Brake Function

  • The module supports a brake function. Refer to the specific pin or control method for activating the brake, which will rapidly stop the motor.

7. Maintenance

The XY-BLDC module is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure longevity:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly inspect the module for dust and debris. Use a soft, dry brush or compressed air to gently clean the board.
  • Avoid Moisture: Protect the module from water, humidity, and corrosive environments.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate airflow around the module, especially the heatsink, to prevent overheating during operation.
  • Connection Integrity: Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your XY-BLDC module, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Motor Not Spinning:
    • Check power supply voltage and current capacity.
    • Verify all motor phase and Hall sensor connections are correct and secure.
    • Ensure the control signal (PWM or analog) is present and within the expected range.
    • Confirm the motor is a 120-degree electrical angle BLDC motor with sensors.
  • Erratic Motor Behavior / Stuttering:
    • Recheck Hall sensor wiring for correct order and connection.
    • Ensure the power supply is stable and not fluctuating.
    • Check for any loose connections or short circuits.
  • Module Overheating:
    • Ensure adequate ventilation around the heatsink.
    • Verify the motor load does not exceed the module's 200W power rating.
    • Check for any short circuits in the motor or wiring.
  • No Speed Control Response:
    • If using PWM, check the signal amplitude (must be 5V) and frequency (1K-10KHz).
    • If using analog, ensure the 0-5V signal is correctly applied to the AN pin and shares a common ground.
    • Verify the potentiometer (if used) is correctly wired and functional.
