Setup

Initial Winding

Your Spinnaker Bradner GMT watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement. If the watch has stopped, it requires initial winding to build up its power reserve. To do this:

  1. Unscrew the crown located at the 3 o'clock position by turning it counter-clockwise until it springs free.
  2. Gently turn the crown clockwise approximately 30-40 times. This will initiate the movement and build a sufficient power reserve.
  3. Push the crown back in and screw it down clockwise to ensure water resistance.

The watch will continue to wind itself through the motion of your wrist while worn. If worn daily for 8-12 hours, manual winding should not be necessary.

Bracelet Adjustment

The watch comes with a solid stainless steel bracelet and an additional rubber strap. For optimal comfort and to ensure the automatic movement functions correctly, the bracelet or strap should fit snugly but not too tightly on your wrist.

  • Stainless Steel Bracelet: Adjustment typically involves removing or adding links. This procedure often requires specialized tools and is best performed by a qualified watchmaker or jeweler.
  • Rubber Strap: The rubber strap can be easily interchanged. Ensure the spring bars are securely fitted into the lug holes when attaching the strap.

Operating Instructions

Crown Functions

The watch features two crowns. The crown at 3 o'clock controls time and date settings, while the crown at 2 o'clock operates the inner rotating bezel.

Crown at 3 o'clock (Time/Date/GMT Setting)

  1. Position 0 (Screwed Down): This is the normal operating position, ensuring water resistance.
  2. Position 1 (Pulled Out Once): Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date. Turn the crown counter-clockwise to adjust the GMT hand.
  3. Position 2 (Pulled Out Twice): Turn the crown to adjust the hour and minute hands. The second hand will stop, allowing for precise time setting.

Crown at 2 o'clock (Inner Rotating Bezel)

This crown rotates the inner 24-hour bezel. It can be used to track a third time zone or for elapsed time measurement.

Setting the Time and Date

  1. Unscrew the crown at 3 o'clock by turning it counter-clockwise.
  2. Pull the crown out to Position 2. The second hand will stop.
  3. Set the Time: Turn the crown to move the hour and minute hands to the desired time. Ensure you differentiate between AM and PM for correct date change (the date changes around midnight).
  4. Push the crown in to Position 1.
  5. Set the Date: Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the current time falls within this period, first adjust the time outside this range, set the date, then reset the time.
  6. Set the GMT Hand: Turn the crown counter-clockwise to adjust the GMT hand to the desired second time zone. The GMT hand completes one rotation every 24 hours.
  7. Push the crown back to Position 0 and screw it down clockwise firmly to maintain water resistance.

Maintenance

Cleaning

To maintain the appearance of your watch, clean it regularly with a soft, damp cloth. For the stainless steel bracelet, a soft brush with mild soap and water can be used, ensuring to rinse thoroughly and dry completely. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

Water Resistance

Your Spinnaker Bradner GMT watch is water resistant up to 18 ATM (180 meters / 600 feet). This rating makes it suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and recreational diving. However, always ensure both crowns are fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water. Do not operate the crowns while the watch is wet or submerged, as this can compromise water resistance.

Environmental Considerations

  • Temperature: Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures (above 60°C / 140°F or below 0°C / 32°F) or sudden temperature changes, as this can affect the movement and seals.
  • Magnetic Fields: Keep your watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, refrigerators, airport security scanners), which can magnetize the movement and affect timekeeping accuracy.
  • Shocks: While robust, avoid severe impacts or shocks to the watch.

Servicing

For optimal performance and longevity, it is recommended to have your automatic watch serviced by a professional watchmaker every 3-5 years. This includes cleaning, lubrication, and checking the water resistance seals.
