4. Installation Instructions

Follow these steps carefully to install the seal kit:

  1. Step 1: Remove the damaged seal. Use the provided spanner wrench to carefully remove the existing damaged seal gland from the hydraulic cylinder.
  2. Step 2: Pull the bracket and install the plastic sleeve. Slide the steering cylinder rod through the plastic guide tool (assembly guide tool) to protect the rod and aid in seal installation.
  3. Step 3: Install the largest O-ring onto the seal gland. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated in its groove on the new seal gland.
  4. Step 4: Slide the seal gland onto the rod and tighten. Carefully slide the new seal gland, with the O-ring and plastic guide tool, onto the cylinder rod. Use the spanner wrench to tighten the seal gland securely into place.
  5. Step 5: Slide the bracket back onto the rod and reinstall other washers and nuts. Reassemble any removed components, ensuring all connections are secure.

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and proper function of your hydraulic steering system. The maXpeedingrods seal kit components are manufactured from high-quality aluminum and rubber, designed for durability and resistance to corrosion.

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the hydraulic steering cylinder and seals for any signs of wear, leaks, or damage.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the steering system components clean and free from debris, salt, and other corrosive elements.
  • Fluid Levels: Ensure hydraulic fluid levels are maintained according to your boat's manufacturer specifications.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues after installing the seal kit, consider the following:

  • Persistent Leaks: Double-check that all O-rings are correctly seated and that the seal glands are tightened to the appropriate torque. Ensure no debris is trapped between sealing surfaces.
  • Difficulty in Steering: Verify that the hydraulic system is properly bled of air after installation. Air in the system can cause spongy steering or reduced responsiveness.
  • Incorrect Fit: Confirm that the seal kit is indeed compatible with your specific hydraulic cylinder model (refer to Section 3).

If problems persist, consult a qualified marine technician.
