1. Introduction

This user manual provides comprehensive instructions for the operation and maintenance of your QODOSEN DX-286 Portable Radio. Designed with an NXP TEF6686 automotive chip, this radio offers ultra-high sensitivity and selectivity across LW, AM, FM, and Shortwave bands. Please read this manual thoroughly to ensure proper use and to maximize your listening experience.

Note: The 18650 button-top battery required for operation is not included and must be purchased separately.

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

The DX-286 radio is powered by a single 18650 button-top battery (not included). Follow these steps to install the battery:

1. Locate the battery compartment on the rear of the radio.
2. Open the battery compartment cover.
3. Insert one 18650 button-top battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2 Charging the Battery

Use the provided USB charging cable to charge the installed 18650 battery. Connect the small end of the USB cable to the radio's USB IN 5V port and the other end to a compatible USB power source (e.g., computer USB port, USB wall adapter).

The radio supports smart charging for the 18650 battery.

3.3 Antenna Setup

The DX-286 features a telescopic antenna for FM, LW, MW, and SW reception, and also supports an external antenna.

• Telescopic Antenna: Extend the telescopic antenna fully for optimal reception, especially for FM and Shortwave bands.
• External Antenna: For enhanced reception, particularly on LW, MW, and SW, connect an external antenna to the ANT. interface on the side of the radio.

Warning: Do not use the outdoor external antenna during thunderstorms to protect against lightning strikes!

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

Press the red SLEEP button briefly to power on the radio. To power off, press and hold the SLEEP button.

4.2 Band Selection and Tuning

The DX-286 supports FM, AM (MW), SW, and LW bands. Use the dedicated FM and AM buttons to switch between these bands. The AM button cycles through AM (MW), SW, and LW.

Frequency ranges supported:

• FM: 64-108 MHz (various regional settings available)
• AM (MW): 520-1710 kHz (tuning step 9KHz/10KHz selectable)
• SW: 1711-27000 kHz
• LW: 144-519 kHz

Tuning Methods:

• Manual Tuning: Use the tuning knob on the right side of the radio to adjust the frequency.
• Direct Frequency Input: Use the numeric keypad (0-9) to directly enter a desired frequency.
• Auto Tuning Storage (ATS): Press the AUTO button to automatically scan and store available stations.
• Seek Tuning: Use the AUTO up/down arrows to seek the next strong station.

4.3 Key Features and Functions

The DX-286 radio is equipped with a variety of functions for an enhanced user experience:

• Clock/World Time: Display current time and world time.
• Alarm Modes: Set up to two alarms.

4.4 Audio Output

The radio is equipped with a full-range speaker for clear audio. For private listening, connect 3.5mm headphones to the headphone jack on the side of the radio.
