4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Slide or unclip the cover to open it.
  3. Insert two (2) 1.5V AAA (UM-4) batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: Batteries are not included in the package due to aviation security regulations.

4.2 Initial Inspection

Before first use, inspect the device for any visible damage. Ensure the sample plate is clean and free from debris. The sensor should also be clean and unobstructed.

5. Operation

5.1 Powering On/Off

  • To power on the device, press the power button (usually marked with a ⑂ symbol). The backlit LCD screen will illuminate.
  • The device features an automatic shut-off function to conserve battery power. To manually shut off the device, press and hold the power button until the display turns off.

5.2 Taking a Measurement

  1. Ensure the sample plate is clean and dry.
  2. Place a small, representative sample of the material to be tested onto the sample plate. Ensure the sample covers the sensor area adequately without overflowing.
  3. Close the meter's lid or place the main unit onto the sample plate, ensuring a tight seal to create a closed environment for accurate measurement.
  4. The measurement process will begin automatically or may require a button press (refer to specific on-screen prompts if any). The device will typically take approximately 5 minutes to stabilize and display the final water activity (aw) and temperature readings.
  5. Once the reading is stable, record the displayed values.
  6. After measurement, remove the sample and clean the sample plate and sensor area immediately.

6. Maintenance
