This keyboard features a compact 96% layout, a gasket-mounted design for improved typing feel, hot-swappable switches for customization, vibrant RGB lighting, and a convenient multifunctional knob.

3. Setup

3.1 Connecting the Keyboard

  1. Locate the USB Type-C port on the back of the keyboard.
  2. Connect the provided USB Type-C cable to the keyboard.
  3. Connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer.
  4. The keyboard will be automatically recognized by your operating system. No additional drivers are typically required.

3.2 Cable Management

The keyboard features integrated cable routing channels on the underside to help manage the USB cable and keep your desk tidy. Route the cable through one of the three available grooves as desired.

3.3 Adjusting Keyboard Angle

The keyboard is equipped with adjustable feet on the underside. Flip out the feet to achieve a more ergonomic typing angle if preferred.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Functionality

The Surmen GS98 keyboard features a 96% layout, which includes a full number pad and dedicated arrow keys in a compact form factor. All standard keys function as expected for typing and general computer use.

4.2 Multifunctional Knob

The keyboard is equipped with a multifunctional knob located in the upper right corner. This knob provides quick access to media controls:

  • Press the knob: Play/Pause media.
  • Rotate clockwise: Increase volume.
  • Rotate counter-clockwise: Decrease volume.

4.3 RGB Lighting Effects

The keyboard features 16 RGB lighting effects and supports 16.8 million customizable light colors. 4.4 N-Key Rollover

5. Customization

5.1 Hot-Swappable Switches

The keyboard is designed with hot-swappable PCB sockets, allowing you to easily replace the mechanical switches without soldering. It supports both 3-pin and 5-pin switches. A switch puller is included in the package for this purpose.

  1. Using the provided switch puller, carefully grip the switch you wish to remove.
  2. Gently pull upwards until the switch detaches from the PCB.
  3. Align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the PCB.
  4. Press down firmly until the switch clicks into place. Ensure the pins are not bent during insertion.

5.2 Keycap Replacement

The keyboard comes with double-shot PBT keycaps, which can also be replaced. A keycap puller is included for easy removal.

  1. Use the keycap puller to gently grasp the keycap you want to remove.
  2. Pull upwards evenly until the keycap detaches from the switch stem.
  3. Align the new keycap with the switch stem and press down gently until it is securely seated.

5.3 Macro Customization

All keys on the Surmen GS98 support macro customization. This allows users to record and edit macros, assign custom key functions, and personalize the keyboard's behavior. Specific software or key combinations are typically used for macro programming. Refer to the product's official support resources for detailed instructions on macro setup.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • General Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface of the keyboard.
  • Deep Cleaning: For dust and debris under keycaps, use the provided keycap puller to remove keycaps. Use compressed air or a small brush to clean the exposed switches and plate. Reattach keycaps firmly.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the keyboard's finish or keycap legends.

6.2 Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the keyboard in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Disconnect the USB cable to prevent accidental activation.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Keyboard not responding:
    • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and the computer.
    • Try connecting the keyboard to a different USB port on your computer.
    • Test the keyboard on another computer to rule out a computer-specific issue.
  • Specific keys not working:
    • Carefully remove the keycap and switch of the non-functioning key using the provided tools.
    • Inspect the switch for any visible damage or bent pins.
    • Try replacing the switch with a known working switch from another less-used key, or a spare switch if available.
    • Ensure the keycap is properly seated on the switch stem.
  • RGB lighting not working or incorrect:
    • Check if the lighting is simply turned off or set to a very low brightness. Use the designated key combinations to adjust.
    • If using software for customization, ensure it is running correctly and the keyboard is detected.
    • Disconnect and reconnect the keyboard.
