Initial Setup

Helmet Sizing and Fit

A properly fitting helmet is crucial for safety and comfort. Ensure the helmet fits snugly around your head without causing pressure points. The cheek pads should make firm contact with your cheeks. If the helmet moves freely when you shake your head, it is too large. Refer to HJC's sizing guide for detailed measurements.

Shield Installation/Removal

The HJ-33 shield is designed for easy installation and removal. To remove, open the shield fully and locate the release mechanisms on both sides. Press the release buttons/levers and gently pull the shield away from the helmet. To install, align the shield's pivot points with the helmet's base plates and press firmly until it clicks into place. Ensure both sides are securely fastened before riding.

Operating Your Helmet

Modular Function

The i91 is a modular helmet, allowing the chin bar to be raised. To open the chin bar, locate the release button, typically at the center front of the chin bar. Press the button and lift the chin bar upwards until it locks into the open position. To close, pull the chin bar down firmly until it latches securely. Always ensure the chin bar is fully locked in the down position before riding at speed.

Visor Operation

The main HJ-33 shield can be opened and closed by lifting or lowering it from the chin bar. The integrated HJ-V12 sun visor is operated by a slider mechanism, usually located on the side of the helmet. Slide it forward to deploy the sun visor and backward to retract it. Use the sun visor only in bright conditions and retract it when light conditions change.

Ventilation System Operation

The Advanced Channeling Ventilation System features adjustable vents. Locate the intake vents on the front (chin and forehead) and exhaust vents on the rear. Open or close these vents by sliding the respective levers to control airflow through the helmet, optimizing comfort based on riding conditions.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning the Exterior

Clean the helmet's exterior with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the shell's finish and protective coatings. Rinse thoroughly and air dry.

Cleaning the Interior

The removable cheek and crown pads can be hand-washed with mild soap and cold water. Allow them to air dry completely before reinserting them into the helmet. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.

Shield Care
