Safety Information
- Always wear appropriate safety gear when working on your bicycle.
- Ensure all bolts and fasteners are tightened to the manufacturer's recommended torque specifications.
- Do not attempt to disassemble the air shock. Internal components are under high pressure and can cause injury.
- Regularly inspect the shock for any signs of damage, leaks, or wear. Replace damaged parts immediately.
- Consult a professional bicycle mechanic if you are unsure about any installation or adjustment procedures.
Parts List
The DNM Damping 3 System MTB Bike Air Rear Shock package includes the following components:
- DNM Air Rear Shock (Model AOY-30RC-165)
- Top Bushing (8mm x 24mm)
- Bottom Bushing (8mm x 24mm)
- Extra Bushing and Hardware (8mm x 50mm length)

Setup
1. Measuring Your Shock and Frame
Before installation, it is crucial to measure the eye-to-eye length of your existing shock and the required bushing width for your bike frame. The DNM AOY-30RC-165 shock has an eye-to-eye length of 165mm (6.5 inches) and a travel of 35mm. Different bike frames may require different bushing widths.

Figure 4: Measuring the shock's eye-to-eye length.
2. Bushing Modification (If Necessary)
The shock comes with standard 8mm x 24mm bushings. If your frame requires a different width, you may need to modify the included extra 8mm x 50mm bushing. This can be done by carefully measuring and cutting the bushing to the required width using a hacksaw and filing the edges smooth. Ensure the inner diameter remains 8mm.
3. Air Pressure Adjustment
The shock features both a main air chamber and a negative air chamber. Proper air pressure is critical for optimal performance and rider comfort. Refer to the table below for recommended air pressures based on rider weight. Always use a high-pressure shock pump for adjustments.
| Weight (lbs) | Main Air Chamber (psi) | Negative Air Chamber (psi) |
|---|---|---|
| 120 | 90 | 50 |
| 140 | 105 | 50 |
| 160 | 120 | 55 |
| 180 | 135 | 65 |
| 200 | 150 | 70 |
| 220 | 165 | 75 |
When pumping, inflate slightly more than the recommended pressure, as some air will be lost when removing the pump nozzle. Adjust both main and negative air chambers according to your weight and riding preference.
4. Installation
Carefully align the shock with the mounting points on your bicycle frame. Insert the appropriate bolts through the bushings and frame, securing them firmly. Ensure the shock moves freely without binding. Tighten bolts to your bicycle manufacturer's torque specifications.

Operating Instructions
1. Rebound Adjustment
The red knob on the shock controls the rebound damping. Turning the knob in the '+' direction (clockwise) increases damping, making the shock return slower. Turning it in the '-' direction (counter-clockwise) decreases damping, allowing the shock to return faster. Adjust to your preference for trail conditions and riding style.

2. Lockout / Compression Adjustment
The blue lever on the shock controls the lockout/compression adjustment. Moving the lever to the 'Lock-out' position stiffens the shock, reducing suspension movement for climbing or smooth terrain. Moving it to the 'Open Up' position allows full suspension travel. Note: The shock may not completely lock out.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each ride, wipe down the shock body and shaft with a clean, damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or high-pressure washers directly on the seals.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of suspension-specific lubricant to the exposed shock shaft to keep seals supple and reduce friction.
- Air Pressure Check: Check air pressure before every ride and adjust as necessary according to your weight and riding conditions.
- Seal Service: Air shocks require periodic seal service to maintain optimal performance and prevent air leaks. The frequency depends on riding conditions and usage, but generally every 50-100 hours of riding or annually. It is recommended to have this service performed by a qualified technician.
- Bolt Torque: Regularly check the torque of all mounting bolts to ensure they are secure.
Troubleshooting
- Shock feels too soft/bottoms out: Increase air pressure in the main air chamber. Check for air leaks.
- Shock feels too stiff/harsh ride: Decrease air pressure in the main air chamber. Check negative air chamber pressure.
- Shock not returning fully/slow rebound: Decrease rebound damping (turn red knob towards '-').
- Shock returning too fast/bouncy: Increase rebound damping (turn red knob towards '+').
- Air leak: Inspect valves for proper seating. Check for visible damage to seals or shock body. If leaks persist, professional service is required.
- Lockout not working: Ensure the blue lever is fully engaged. Check air pressure. If the issue persists, professional service may be needed.
