Model: 5000.1

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your SounDigital EVOX2 5000.1 Mono Amplifier. Please read this manual thoroughly before attempting to install or operate the amplifier to ensure optimal performance and safety. The SounDigital EVOX2 5000.1 is a high-performance mono amplifier designed for car audio systems, delivering significant power output for subwoofers.

2. Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the amplifier and vehicle:

  • Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal before any installation or wiring.
  • Ensure all wiring is correctly routed and secured to prevent pinching or damage.
  • Use appropriate gauge power and ground wires as specified in the installation section.
  • Install the amplifier in a dry, well-ventilated location, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and moisture.
  • Do not expose the amplifier to water or excessive humidity.
  • Avoid placing the amplifier in areas where it could be kicked or damaged.
  • Always use fuses of the specified rating. Never replace a fuse with one of a higher rating.
  • High Power Warning: This amplifier is capable of producing very high sound pressure levels. Prolonged exposure to high sound levels can cause permanent hearing loss. Use caution when adjusting volume levels.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in the package:

  • SounDigital EVOX2 5000.1 Amplifier
  • User Manual (this document)
  • Mounting Hardware (screws, etc.) - (Note: Specific hardware may vary)

4. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your amplifier. If you are unsure about any part of the installation process, consult a professional installer.

4.1. Mounting the Amplifier

Choose a mounting location that is secure, dry, and allows for adequate ventilation. Avoid mounting on carpet or in enclosed spaces without airflow. Use the provided mounting hardware to secure the amplifier firmly.

4.2. Power Connections

The EVOX2 5000.1 requires robust power and ground connections. Refer to the image below for terminal locations.

  • +12VDC (Positive Power): Connect a heavy-gauge power cable (e.g., 0 AWG or 4 AWG, depending on cable length and power requirements) directly from the vehicle's positive battery terminal to the +12VDC terminal on the amplifier. Install an appropriate fuse (250A recommended) within 18 inches (45 cm) of the battery.
  • GND (Ground): Connect a heavy-gauge ground cable of the same size as the power cable from the GND terminal on the amplifier to a clean, unpainted metal surface of the vehicle chassis. Ensure a solid, low-resistance connection.
  • REM (Remote Turn-On): Connect a smaller gauge wire (e.g., 18 AWG) from the REM terminal on the amplifier to the remote turn-on output of your head unit or a switched 12V source.

4.3. Speaker Connections

Connect your subwoofer(s) to the SPEAKER terminals. This is a mono amplifier, so ensure your subwoofer(s) are wired to present a final impedance of 1 Ohm or 2 Ohms to the amplifier for optimal power delivery. Refer to your subwoofer's specifications for proper wiring configurations.

4.4. Input Connections

The amplifier supports both RCA (low-level) and High Input (speaker-level) connections.

  • RCA Input: Connect RCA cables from your head unit's subwoofer or full-range pre-out to the RCA INPUT terminals (L and R) on the amplifier.
  • High Input: If your head unit does not have RCA outputs, connect the speaker wires from your head unit to the HI INPUT terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+/-) for each channel.

4.5. Control Adjustments

The amplifier features several controls to fine-tune its output. Adjust these carefully to match your system and preferences.

Figure 5: Close-up of the amplifier's control panel, detailing the Gain, Low Pass Filter (LPF), Subsonic Filter, and Bass Boost adjustments.

  • GAIN: Adjusts the input sensitivity of the amplifier to match the output voltage of your head unit. Start with the gain at minimum and slowly increase it until the desired volume is achieved without distortion.
  • LOW PASS FILTER (LPF): Sets the upper frequency limit for the amplifier's output. Frequencies above this setting will be attenuated. Typically set between 50Hz and 100Hz for subwoofers.
  • SUBSONIC: Sets the lower frequency limit. Frequencies below this setting will be attenuated. This protects your subwoofer from playing frequencies too low for its capabilities, which can cause damage. Typically set between 20Hz and 30Hz.
  • BASS BOOST: Provides an adjustable boost to bass frequencies, usually around 45Hz. Use sparingly to avoid distortion and potential speaker damage.
  • REMOTE LEVEL CONTROL: Connects an optional wired remote level control for convenient adjustment of the amplifier's output from the driver's seat.

5. Operating the Amplifier

Once all connections are made and verified, and initial settings are configured:

  1. Turn on your vehicle's ignition and head unit. The amplifier should power on (indicated by an LED).
  2. Start with the head unit volume low and gradually increase it, listening for any distortion.
  3. Adjust the amplifier's GAIN control as described in Section 4.5.
  4. Fine-tune the LPF, SUBSONIC, and BASS BOOST settings to achieve the desired sound balance with your other speakers.
  5. If the amplifier's protection LED illuminates, turn off the system immediately and troubleshoot the issue (see Section 7).

6. Maintenance

The SounDigital EVOX2 5000.1 amplifier requires minimal maintenance:

  • Keep the amplifier clean and free of dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Ensure adequate airflow around the amplifier to prevent overheating. Periodically check that cooling fins are not obstructed.
  • Regularly inspect all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Loose connections can cause poor performance or damage.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on the amplifier.
