The inductive signal wire is used to detect engine RPM.

Image 5.2: Diagram showing how to wrap the inductive signal wire around the spark plug wire.
- Wrap the inductive signal wire around the spark plug wire of your engine. Typically, 5-7 wraps are sufficient for a strong signal.
- Secure the inductive wire with the provided cable ties to prevent it from coming loose or interfering with moving parts.
- The total length of the inductive cable is 1.75 meters (68.8 inches).
5.3 Engine Type Selection
To ensure accurate RPM readings, select the correct engine firing pattern for your gasoline engine. The meter supports 9 firing patterns for 13 types of gasoline engines:
- 2-stroke engines: 1, 2, 3, 6 cylinders
- 4-stroke engines: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 12, 16 cylinders
Refer to the detailed instructions in the included user manual for how to navigate the settings menu and select the appropriate engine type.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 RPM and Hours Display
The meter displays both current RPM and total operating hours.

Image 6.1: Examples of RPM and Hours display, including MAX RPM and initial hour setting.
- When the engine is running, the meter displays the current RPM value (range: 0 to 6000 RPM).
- When the engine is off, the meter displays the total accumulated hours (TOT hours range: 0 to 99,999 hours).
- You can view the historical maximum RPM recorded since the engine started.
- A resettable partial hours record (JOB) is available for single working periods.
- You can set an initial start hour for total hours tracking within 1 hour before the engine starts, useful for replacing old hour meters.
6.2 Maintenance Reminder (SVC)
The meter includes a maintenance reminder function to help you keep track of service intervals.

Image 6.2: The SVC maintenance reminder display on the meter.
- Set maintenance intervals (SVC channels) from 0 to 2000 hours.
- The meter will alert you when a scheduled maintenance interval is approaching or due.
6.3 Other Features
- Water Resistance: The device has an IP67 water resistance rating, making it suitable for outdoor use and resistant to dust and temporary immersion in water.

Image 6.3: Illustration of the meter's IP67 water resistance during a test.
- LCD Display Shutdown: The display can be configured to shut down to conserve battery life.
- Built-in Battery: Powered by a CR2032 210mAh battery.
7. Maintenance
The Runleader Digital Tach/Hour Meter requires minimal maintenance. Regularly check the inductive wire connection for wear or damage. Keep the display clean with a soft, dry cloth. The built-in CR2032 battery is designed for long-term use and is generally not user-replaceable. If the battery needs replacement, it is recommended to contact customer support.
8. Troubleshooting
- No RPM Reading: Ensure the inductive wire is securely wrapped around the spark plug wire (5-7 wraps recommended). Verify the engine type setting is correct.
- Inaccurate RPM Reading: Double-check the engine type setting. Ensure the inductive wire is not too close to other electrical interference sources.
- Display Not Working: The built-in battery may be depleted. If the display remains off after the engine runs, contact customer support.
- Maintenance Reminder Not Activating: Verify that the SVC interval is correctly set in the meter's settings.
