1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Wave Hobby Tool Series HT-544 HG Micro Chisel Grip. This precision tool is designed to enhance your model building experience by providing a comfortable and stable grip for the separately sold HG Micro Chisel. 2. Safety Information

  • Always handle sharp tools, including the HG Micro Chisel (sold separately), with extreme care.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets. This is not a toy.
  • Wear appropriate safety glasses to protect your eyes from flying debris when cutting or scribing.
  • Ensure the chisel blade is securely fastened in the grip before use.
  • Always cut away from your body and fingers.
  • Use on a stable, non-slip surface.
  • Store the tool with the blade protected (e.g., with a cap or in a dedicated tool case) when not in use.

3. Package Contents

The Wave Hobby Tool Series HT-544 package contains the following item:

  • 1 x Wave HT-544 HG Micro Chisel Grip (Black)

Note: The HG Micro Chisel blade is not included and must be purchased separately.

4. Setup

Follow these steps to properly install an HG Micro Chisel blade into the HT-544 Grip:

  1. Unscrew the Chuck: Hold the black aluminum body of the grip firmly. Gently twist the silver knurled collar counter-clockwise to loosen the brass chuck jaws. Do not unscrew completely unless necessary for cleaning.
  2. Insert the Chisel Blade: Carefully insert the shank of your HG Micro Chisel blade (sold separately) into the opening of the brass chuck. Ensure the blade is inserted deep enough for a secure hold, leaving the cutting edge exposed as desired for your work.
  3. Secure the Blade: While holding the blade in position, twist the silver knurled collar clockwise to tighten the brass chuck jaws. Tighten firmly but do not overtighten, as this could damage the blade or the chuck.
  4. Verify Security: Gently tug on the chisel blade to ensure it is securely held and does not wobble. If it moves, repeat steps 1-3.

5. Operating Instructions

Once the HG Micro Chisel blade is securely installed, the HT-544 Grip provides a stable and comfortable handle for precision work.

  1. Grip: Hold the lightweight aluminum body of the tool firmly, similar to how you would hold a pen or pencil, ensuring a comfortable and controlled grip. The ergonomic design helps reduce hand fatigue during extended use.
  2. Application: Position the tip of the micro chisel blade onto the surface of your plastic model where you intend to cut, scribe, or create panel lines.
  3. Cutting/Scribing: Apply gentle, consistent pressure and guide the chisel along the desired path. For scribing, multiple light passes are often more effective than a single deep pass. For cutting, ensure the material is supported and apply steady pressure.
  4. Angle: Experiment with different angles to achieve the desired depth and width of your cuts or scribes. The grip allows for precise control over the blade's angle.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, gently wipe the grip and the exposed part of the chisel blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove any plastic dust or debris.
  • Blade Care: Always remove the chisel blade from the grip for cleaning or when replacing it. Refer to the HG Micro Chisel's own instructions for blade sharpening or replacement.
  • Storage: Store the HT-544 Grip in a clean, dry place, preferably in a tool box or drawer, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the chisel blade is either removed or protected with a cap to prevent accidental injury or damage to the blade.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the chuck mechanism for any signs of wear or damage. If the chuck no longer holds the blade securely, discontinue use and consider replacement.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Chisel blade is loose:
    • Ensure the silver knurled collar is tightened sufficiently.
    • Verify the chisel blade shank is fully inserted into the chuck.
    • Inspect the brass chuck jaws for any debris or damage that might prevent proper gripping. Clean if necessary.
  • Difficulty making clean cuts/scribes:
    • Check if the HG Micro Chisel blade is sharp. A dull blade will not cut effectively.
    • Ensure you are using the correct type and size of chisel for the task.
    • Adjust the pressure and angle of the tool. Practice on scrap material if needed.
