1. Product Overview

The Ingenuity Doorway 48W Series Pet and Baby Gate is designed to safely contain children and pets within designated areas of your home. This versatile gate can be installed using either a pressure mount system for doorways and hallways or a hardware mount system for secure placement at the top or bottom of stairs. It features a convenient auto-close mechanism and a hold-open function for ease of use.

2. Safety Information

Please read and follow all instructions carefully before installation and use. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death. Keep these instructions for future reference.

• This gate is intended for use with children from 6 to 24 months.
• Never use at the top of stairs without the included hardware mount kit.
• Always ensure the gate is securely latched before leaving a child or pet unattended.
• Do not allow children to climb on the gate.
• Periodically check all fasteners and mounting points to ensure they are tight and secure.
• When installing the gate, do not cut the red zip tie that is tightened around the swing door until instructed to do so in the Instruction Manual. This zip tie holds the gate in proper alignment during shipping and initial setup.

3. Parts List

Verify that all parts are present before beginning installation. If any parts are missing or damaged, do not use the gate and contact customer service.

4. Installation

4.1 Pressure Mount Installation (Doorways & Hallways)

This method requires no drilling and is suitable for openings between 28.5 and 48 inches wide. Ensure the surface is clean and dry before applying wall cups.

1. Determine the desired location for the gate.
2. Attach the four pressure mount bolts to the corners of the main gate assembly.
3. Place the gate in the opening. The gap between the gate frame and the door is normal before tightening.
4. Adjust the bolts until the gate is snug in the opening.
5. Peel the backing from the adhesive wall cups and place them against the wall where the pressure mount bolts meet the surface.
6. Tighten the bolts further using the provided wrench until the gate is securely in place and the gap at the latch mechanism is minimal.
7. Once the gate is securely installed, you may cut the red zip tie.

4.2 Hardware Mount Installation (Top or Bottom of Stairs)

Hardware mounting is required for safe installation at the top or bottom of stairs. This method involves drilling.

Recommended tools (not included): Drill, Phillips-head screwdriver, pencil, measuring tape.

1. Carefully read the specific instructions provided with the hardware mount kit.
2. Measure and mark the drilling locations according to the hardware kit template.
3. Drill pilot holes and securely attach the mounting hardware to the wall or banister.
4. Attach the gate to the installed hardware.
5. Ensure the gate swings away from the stairs when installed at the top. The stopper prevents the door from swinging over the top of stairs.
6. Verify the gate is firmly secured and operates correctly before use.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Opening the Gate

The gate is designed for one-hand adult operation.

• To open, engage the latch mechanism and lift the gate door slightly.
• Swing the door open in either direction.

5.2 Auto-Close and Hold-Open Features

• Auto-Close: If the gate door is opened less than 90 degrees, it will automatically swing shut and latch securely.
• Hold-Open: If the gate door is opened more than 90 degrees, it will remain in the open position, allowing for free passage. To close, simply push the door gently until it engages the auto-close function or manually close it.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and proper function of your gate:

• Clean regularly with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as they may damage the finish.
• Periodically check all screws, bolts, and connections to ensure they are tight. Tighten as necessary.
• Store the gate in a dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use for extended periods.

7. Troubleshooting

• Gate does not latch or close properly:
  Ensure the gate is installed correctly and the pressure bolts are tightened sufficiently. The gap at the latch should be minimal for proper closure. If hardware mounted, check alignment and tightness of screws.
• Gate feels loose or wobbly:
  Tighten all pressure mount bolts or hardware screws. For pressure mount, use the included wrench for additional tension.
• Gate is difficult to open:
  Ensure the latch mechanism is not obstructed. If the gate is too tightly installed with pressure mounts, slightly loosen the bolts until it operates smoothly while remaining secure.
• Gate does not fit opening:
  This gate is designed for openings 28.5-48 inches wide. It will not fit openings 32-33", 36-37", 40-41", 44-45". Please measure your opening carefully before purchase.
