Important Safeguards

Setup and First Use
Before using your rice cooker for the first time, follow these steps:
- Unpack all components and remove any packaging materials.
- Wash the non-stick cooking pot, steamer basket, measuring cup, and service spoon thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Rinse well and dry completely.
- Wipe the exterior of the rice cooker body with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water.
- Ensure the condensation collector is properly installed at the back of the unit.
- Place the rice cooker on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface, away from walls or cabinets to allow for proper ventilation.
Operating Instructions
The Starfrit Electric Rice Cooker features a digital control panel with various preset functions for versatile cooking.

- White Rice: For cooking standard white rice.
- Quick Rice: For faster cooking of white rice.
- Whole Grain: Optimized for brown rice and other whole grains.
- Hot Cereals: Ideal for oatmeal, grits, and other hot breakfast cereals.
- Steam Cook: For steaming vegetables, fish, or other foods using the steamer basket.
- Heat/Simmer: For reheating or gently simmering dishes.
- Warm/Rechaud: Automatically activates after cooking to keep food warm. Can also be manually selected.
- Delay Time: Allows you to set a delayed start for cooking.
General Rice Cooking Steps
- Measure Rice: Use the provided measuring cup to measure the desired amount of rice. One full cup from the provided measuring cup is approximately 180ml.
- Rinse Rice: Rinse rice in a separate bowl under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch.
- Add Rice to Pot: Place the rinsed rice into the non-stick cooking pot.
- Add Water: Add the appropriate amount of cold water. Refer to the water level markings inside the non-stick pot or a standard rice-to-water ratio (e.g., 1 cup rice to 1.5-2 cups water for white rice, depending on desired consistency). The pot has internal markings for cups of rice.
- Place Pot in Cooker: Ensure the exterior of the cooking pot is dry, then place it into the main unit. Rotate it slightly to ensure good contact with the heating element.
- Close Lid: Close the lid securely until it clicks into place.
- Plug In: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.
- Select Function: Press the desired cooking function button (e.g., "White Rice"). The indicator light for the selected function will illuminate, and the cooker will begin the cooking cycle.
- Cooking Complete: Once cooking is complete, the cooker will automatically switch to "Warm" mode. The "Warm" indicator light will illuminate.
- Serve: Allow rice to rest in "Warm" mode for 5-10 minutes before serving for best results. Use the provided service spoon to fluff and serve.
- Unplug: Unplug the cooker from the outlet after serving.

Steaming Instructions
To steam vegetables, fish, or other foods:
- Add 1-2 cups of water to the non-stick cooking pot.
- Place the steamer basket into the cooking pot.
- Arrange food evenly in the steamer basket. Do not overfill.
- Close the lid securely.
- Plug in the cooker and press the "Steam Cook" button.
- Monitor steaming progress. Cooking times will vary based on food type and quantity.
- Once steaming is complete, unplug the cooker and carefully remove the steamer basket using oven mitts.
Care and Maintenance
Proper care ensures the longevity and performance of your rice cooker.
- Always unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Non-Stick Cooking Pot: Wash the inner pot with warm, soapy water using a soft sponge or cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads, as this can damage the non-stick coating. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Steamer Basket, Measuring Cup, Service Spoon: Wash with warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid.
- Condensation Collector: Remove and empty the condensation collector after each use. Wash with warm, soapy water, rinse, and reattach.
- Steam Release Valve: Periodically check the steam release valve for any food debris and clean if necessary.
- Storage: Store the rice cooker in a clean, dry place when not in use.
