Setup and First Use
- Unpacking: Carefully unpack the grill and all its components. Remove any packaging materials, stickers, or labels.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wipe the grill plates with a damp cloth or sponge. Ensure the drip tray is clean and properly inserted.
- Placement: Place the grill on a stable, heat-resistant, and level surface. Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the appliance. Do not place it directly under cabinets or near flammable materials.
- Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a grounded wall outlet (230V). The power indicator light will illuminate.
- Initial Burn-off: For the first use, it is recommended to preheat the grill to its maximum setting for approximately 5-10 minutes without food. This helps to burn off any manufacturing residues. A slight odor or smoke may be present; this is normal. Ensure the area is well-ventilated. After this, unplug the grill and allow it to cool completely before wiping the plates again.
Operating Instructions
Preheating the Grill
- Ensure the drip tray is correctly positioned.
- Close the grill and plug it into a suitable power outlet. The power indicator light will turn on.
- Turn the temperature control knob to your desired setting (e.g., Max for most grilling). The ready indicator light will illuminate while heating.
- Allow the grill to preheat until the ready indicator light turns off, indicating it has reached the set temperature. This usually takes 5-10 minutes depending on the selected temperature.
Grilling Food

Figure 4: The grill fully opened, demonstrating its flat grilling surface suitable for cooking various items like steaks, vegetables, and more. The non-stick plates ensure even cooking.

Figure 5: The grill in its contact position, pressing down on two sandwiches. This mode is ideal for making paninis, toasted sandwiches, or pressing down on thicker cuts of meat for even cooking.
- Once preheated, carefully open the grill using the handle.
- Place your food onto the lower grill plate. Do not overload the grill.
- Close the top grill plate. The floating hinge allows the top plate to adjust to the thickness of your food, ensuring even contact.
- Grill for the recommended time, or until food is cooked to your preference. Cooking times will vary based on the type and thickness of the food.
- Use heat-resistant plastic or wooden utensils to remove food to avoid damaging the non-stick coating.
- After cooking, turn the temperature control knob to "OFF" and unplug the grill from the wall outlet.
Note: For best results, lightly brush food with oil before grilling, especially lean meats or vegetables, to prevent sticking and enhance flavor.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your Severin Contact Grill.

Figure 6: A grill plate being cleaned under running water in a sink. The non-stick surface allows for easy removal of food residues with a soft sponge and mild detergent.
- Cool Down: Always allow the grill to cool completely before cleaning. Never immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid.
- Drip Tray: Remove the drip tray and empty its contents. Wash the drip tray with warm, soapy water. It is generally dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended for longevity.
- Grill Plates: The non-stick grill plates are removable for easy cleaning. Once cool, detach them from the grill. Wash them with warm, soapy water using a soft sponge or cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or metal utensils, as these can damage the non-stick coating. The plates may also be dishwasher safe, refer to specific product details if available, but hand washing is gentler.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the grill with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, use a mild detergent. Dry thoroughly.
- Storage: Ensure all parts are clean and dry before storing the grill. Store in a cool, dry place.
