1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your RockJam 49 Key USB Keyboard Piano, Model RJ490BB. Designed for beginners and intermediate players, this compact digital piano offers a wide range of features to enhance your musical journey. It includes 200 tones, 200 rhythms, 50 demo tracks, and convenient record and playback functionality. 2. Package Contents

Please ensure all items are present in the package:

3. Setup

3.1 Powering the Keyboard

The keyboard can be powered in two ways:

• USB Power: Connect the provided USB cable to the DC 5V-2A port on the back of the keyboard and to a compatible USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port.
• Battery Power: Insert 4 x AA batteries (not included) into the battery compartment on the underside of the keyboard. Ensure correct polarity.

3.2 Attaching the Music Rest

Locate the slots on the top panel of the keyboard. Insert the music rest into these slots until it is securely in place. This provides a stable platform for sheet music or a tablet.

3.3 Applying Keynote Stickers

For beginners, the included piano note stickers can be applied to the white keys to help identify notes. Carefully peel each sticker and align it with the corresponding key, ensuring it adheres smoothly. These stickers are designed to be removable.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

Press the POWER button located on the top left of the control panel to turn the keyboard on or off.

4.2 Volume Control

Rotate the large VOLUME knob to adjust the master volume of the keyboard.

4.3 Selecting Tones

The keyboard features 200 different tones. To select a tone:

1. Press the TONE button.
2. Use the number pad (0-9) or the '+' and '-' buttons to enter the desired tone number. The selected tone number will appear on the digital display.

Refer to the tone list printed on the keyboard for available options, including Piano, Organ, Guitar, Bass, Strings, Brass, Synth, and various Sound Effects.

4.4 Selecting Rhythms

The keyboard includes 200 rhythms. To select a rhythm:

1. Press the RHYTHM button.
2. Use the number pad (0-9) or the '+' and '-' buttons to enter the desired rhythm number.
3. Press START/STOP to begin or end the rhythm.

Available rhythms include Pop, Dance, Samba, Tango, Country, and various traditional styles.

4.5 Tempo Adjustment

While a rhythm or demo song is playing, use the TEMPO '+' and '-' buttons to increase or decrease the playback speed.

4.6 Demo Songs

The keyboard has 50 pre-recorded demo songs. Press the DEMO button to cycle through and play the demo songs. Press START/STOP to stop playback.

4.7 Record & Playback

To record your performance:

1. Press the REC button. The display will indicate recording mode.
2. Play your desired melody on the keys.
3. Press PLAY to listen to your recorded performance.

4.8 Effects (Sustain, Vibrato)

Activate the SUSTAIN button to prolong the sound of notes. Press the VIBRATO button to add a wavering effect to the notes.

4.9 Percussion

Use the dedicated PERCUSSION buttons to add drum and percussion sounds to your playing.

5. Connectivity

The RockJam RJ490BB offers several ports for enhanced functionality:

• Headphone Jack (3.5mm): Connect headphones for private practice without disturbing others.
• Auxiliary Input (3.5mm): Connect an external audio device (e.g., smartphone, MP3 player) to play along with your favorite songs.
• Microphone Input (3.5mm): Connect a microphone (not included) to sing along while playing.
• USB Port: Connect the keyboard to a computer for MIDI functionality, allowing use with music software.

• Simply Piano App: Unlock exclusive content from the Simply Piano IOS and Android application. This app provides interactive lessons, helping you learn fundamental piano techniques and play popular songs. Follow the instructions provided with your product to redeem your access.
• Keynote Stickers: As mentioned in the Setup section, these stickers are a visual aid for identifying notes on the keys, making it easier to follow sheet music and learn scales.

7. Maintenance

Proper care will ensure the longevity of your keyboard:

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface of the keyboard. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the finish.
• Storage: Store the keyboard in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
• Battery Care: If using batteries, remove them if the keyboard will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage.
• Handling: Avoid dropping the keyboard or subjecting it to strong impacts.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your keyboard, refer to the following common solutions:

• No Sound:
  • Check the volume level.
  • Ensure headphones are not plugged in if you intend to use the built-in speakers.
  • Verify the power connection or battery status.
• Keys Unresponsive:
  • Ensure the keyboard is powered on.
  • If certain keys on the left side are unresponsive, check if a 'finger' button or similar setting is activated, which might mute sections of the keyboard for specific modes. Deactivate it to restore full keyboard functionality.
• Power Issues:
  • If using USB power, try a different USB port or power adapter.
  • If using batteries, replace them with fresh ones.
