3. Setup and Binding
This section guides you through the initial setup and binding process of your FS-SR12 receiver with a compatible Flysky transmitter.
3.1 Compatibility
The FS-SR12 receiver is compatible with Flysky transmitters that support the ANT protocol, such as the FS-ST8, FS-G7P, and FS-MG4.

Figure 3.1: A comprehensive table detailing the compatibility between various Flysky transmitters and receivers, indicating full or semi-compatibility.
Note on Compatibility Table:
- A "✓" indicates full compatibility.
- A "✓" with a note indicates semi-compatibility, meaning basic channel signal output can be used.
- Some transmitters may match with specialized receivers (gyro, barometer) but can be used as ordinary receivers.
- Binding procedures may vary: For FS-R4B and FS-R4P, the one-way mode of the transmitter is used. For HW-709, HW-711, FS-R4A, FS-R4A1, and FS-R4D-ESC, the two-way mode is used.
3.2 Binding Procedure
To establish a connection between your FS-SR12 receiver and your transmitter, follow these steps:
- Ensure your transmitter is powered off.
- Connect a binding plug (not included, typically comes with the transmitter or can be purchased separately) to the BIND port on the FS-SR12 receiver. Alternatively, press and hold the BIND button while powering on the receiver.
- Apply power to the FS-SR12 receiver (3.5V to 9V DC). The LED on the receiver should start flashing rapidly, indicating it is in binding mode.
- While the receiver LED is flashing, power on your compatible Flysky transmitter.
- Navigate to the binding menu on your transmitter (refer to your transmitter's manual for specific instructions).
- Initiate the binding process on the transmitter.
- Once binding is successful, the LED on the receiver will stop flashing and remain solid, indicating a stable connection.
- Power off both the receiver and the transmitter.
- Remove the binding plug (if used) from the receiver.
- Power on the transmitter first, then the receiver, to confirm the connection. The receiver LED should be solid.

3.3 Antenna Placement
Proper antenna placement is crucial for optimal signal reception and range. The FS-SR12 features dual antennas. Ensure they are:
- Mounted at a 90-degree angle to each other to maximize signal diversity.
- Kept away from carbon fiber, metal parts, or any other conductive materials that can block or reflect RF signals.
- Not bent or kinked excessively, as this can damage the internal wiring and reduce performance.
4. Operating the Receiver
Once bound, the FS-SR12 receiver is ready for operation. It provides various signal output options to suit different applications.
4.1 Signal Output Modes
The receiver supports the following data output modes:
- PWM (Pulse Width Modulation): Standard output for individual servos and ESCs. The FS-SR12 provides 12 independent PWM channels.
- PPM (Pulse Position Modulation): A single wire carries all channel data, often used for flight controllers.
- i-BUS: Flysky's proprietary digital serial bus protocol, offering multiple channels over a single wire.
- S.BUS: Futaba's digital serial bus protocol, widely used for connecting multiple servos or flight controllers with minimal wiring.
The specific output mode can typically be configured via your compatible Flysky transmitter's settings.
4.2 Online Update
The FS-SR12 receiver supports online firmware updates. This feature allows for performance improvements, bug fixes, and compatibility enhancements. Refer to the official GoolRC or Flysky website for the latest firmware and update instructions.
5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your FS-SR12 receiver.
- Environmental Conditions: Avoid exposing the receiver to extreme temperatures, high humidity, or direct sunlight. The recommended operating temperature range is -10℃ to +60℃, and humidity range is 20% to 95%.
- Moisture: Keep the receiver dry. Moisture can cause corrosion and damage electronic components. If the receiver gets wet, disconnect power immediately and allow it to dry completely before re-applying power.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the receiver. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.
- Physical Protection: Protect the receiver from physical shocks and vibrations. Mount it securely within your model.
- Antenna Care: Regularly inspect the antennas for any signs of damage (e.g., cuts, kinks). Damaged antennas can significantly reduce range and signal quality.

6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your FS-SR12 receiver, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Receiver LED not solid after binding. | Binding failed or signal loss. |
|
| No response from servos/ESCs. | Incorrect wiring, no power to receiver/servos, or incorrect signal output mode. |
|
| Reduced range or intermittent signal. | Poor antenna placement, physical obstruction, or environmental interference. |
|
| Receiver gets hot. | Overvoltage or short circuit. |
