Operating Instructions

Adjusting Brew Temperature

The Appartamento TCA features a hybrid PID design allowing adjustment of brew temperature through 4 selectable boiler pressures, ranging from 0.9 to 1.2 Bars. Refer to the detailed instructions in the full manual for specific steps on how to adjust these settings without additional screens or buttons.

Brewing Espresso

  1. Ensure the machine is heated to operating temperature.
  2. Grind fresh coffee beans to an appropriate fineness for espresso.
  3. Dose the portafilter with the desired amount of ground coffee (e.g., 14-18g for a double shot).
  4. Tamp the coffee evenly with firm pressure.
  5. Insert the portafilter into the brew group and lock it into place.
  6. Place your espresso cup(s) under the portafilter spouts.
  7. Lift the brew lever to initiate the brewing process.
  8. Lower the brew lever once the desired espresso volume is achieved (typically 25-30 seconds for a double shot).

Steaming Milk

  1. Purge the steam wand briefly to remove any condensed water.
  2. Immerse the steam wand tip just below the surface of cold milk in a stainless steel pitcher.
  3. Open the steam valve fully.
  4. Stretch the milk by keeping the tip near the surface until the desired volume is reached.
  5. Submerge the tip deeper to create a swirling motion, incorporating the air and heating the milk to the desired temperature (approx. 140-150°F / 60-65°C).
  6. Close the steam valve and immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. Purge again to clear any milk residue.

Maintenance

Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter and discard the coffee puck. Rinse the portafilter and basket under hot water.
  • Brew Group: Perform a backflush with a blind filter and group head cleaning detergent as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Steam Wand: Always wipe the steam wand immediately after use and purge it to prevent milk residue buildup.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray daily.

Regular Descaling

The frequency of descaling depends on your water hardness. It is recommended to descale the machine every 2-3 months using a descaling solution specifically designed for espresso machines. Follow the descaling product's instructions carefully.

Optional Standby Mode (Eco-Mode)

To save energy, the machine offers a selectable 30-minute 'eco-mode'. Consult the full manual for instructions on how to activate and deactivate this feature.
