4. Operating Instructions
The 4-way valve on top of the filter tank controls the filtration process. Familiarize yourself with its positions for different operations.
Valve Positions:
- FILTER: Normal filtration mode. Water flows through the filter media and returns to the pool.
- BACKWASH: Cleans the filter media by reversing water flow. Used when the pressure gauge indicates high pressure.
- RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush dirty water from the valve and lines before returning to FILTER mode.
- WASTE/DRAIN: Bypasses the filter and sends water directly to waste, useful for vacuuming heavy debris or lowering pool water level.
- RECIRCULATE: Circulates water without filtering, useful for chemical distribution.
- CLOSED: Shuts off flow to the filter.
Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position to prevent damage.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your filtration system. The design allows for easy access to components for cleaning and inspection.
Routine Maintenance:
- Monitor Pressure Gauge: The integrated pressure gauge indicates when the filter media needs cleaning. When the pressure rises significantly above its clean operating pressure, it's time to backwash.
- Backwashing:
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 4-way valve to "BACKWASH".
- Turn on the pump and run until the water in the sight glass (if present) runs clear (typically 2-3 minutes).
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 4-way valve to "RINSE".
- Turn on the pump and run for 30-60 seconds.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 4-way valve to "FILTER".
- Turn on the pump to resume normal operation.
- Pre-filter Cleaning: The transparent cover on the pre-filter allows you to visually inspect its condition. If debris accumulates, turn off the pump, open the pre-filter lid (using the clamping ring closure), remove and clean the basket, then reassemble.
- Winterization: Before freezing temperatures, drain all water from the filter tank, pump, and plumbing lines. Store the pump in a dry, frost-free location.

6. Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your Flotide Pool Filtration Kit.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Low water flow / Poor filtration | Clogged filter media; Clogged pre-filter basket; Air leak in suction line; Low water level in pool. | Backwash filter; Clean pre-filter basket; Check all connections for leaks; Ensure adequate pool water level. |
| High pressure gauge reading | Dirty filter media. | Perform a backwash and rinse cycle. |
| Water leaking from valve | Worn O-rings or gaskets; Valve not fully seated. | Inspect and replace O-rings/gaskets as needed; Ensure valve handle is firmly in position. |
| Pump not priming | Low water level; Air leak; Clogged suction line; Pump basket not full of water. | Ensure pool water level is adequate; Check for air leaks; Clear suction line; Fill pump basket with water before starting. |
