SMEG CKLW2001BL Stovetop Whistling Kettle Instruction Manual
Model: CKLW2001BL | Brand: SMEG
1. Important Safety Instructions
Please read all instructions carefully before using your SMEG Stovetop Whistling Kettle. Retain this manual for future reference.
- Heat Hazard: The kettle and its contents will become extremely hot during and after use. Always use the cool-touch handle and exercise caution when handling.
- Filling: Do not overfill the kettle. Fill only to the 'MAX' line indicated inside the kettle to prevent boiling water from overflowing.
- Stovetop Use: Ensure the kettle is placed centrally and stably on the heat source. Use a burner size appropriate for the kettle's base.
- Handle Position: Always ensure the handle is in an upright position when heating to prevent it from overheating.
- Children and Pets: Keep the kettle out of reach of children and pets, especially when hot.
- Empty Heating: Never heat an empty kettle, as this can damage the kettle and the stovetop.
- Cleaning: This kettle is not dishwasher safe. Refer to the 'Maintenance and Cleaning' section for proper cleaning instructions.
2. Setup and First Use
Before using your kettle for the first time, follow these steps:
- Unpack: Carefully remove the kettle from its packaging and remove all protective materials.
- Wash: Wash the interior of the kettle with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Initial Boil: Fill the kettle with fresh water to the 'MAX' line. Place it on your stovetop and bring the water to a boil. Discard this first batch of boiled water. This helps to clean the interior and remove any manufacturing residues.
3. Operating Instructions
Using your SMEG Stovetop Whistling Kettle is straightforward:
- Fill the Kettle: Remove the lid and fill the kettle with fresh, cold water. Ensure the water level is between the 'MIN' and 'MAX' indicators inside the kettle. Replace the lid securely.
- Place on Stovetop: Position the kettle centrally on a suitable heat source (gas, electric, ceramic, or induction). Ensure the handle is upright.
- Heat Water: Turn on the heat. The kettle will begin to heat the water.
- Listen for Whistle: Once the water reaches a rolling boil, the kettle's whistle will sound, indicating the water is ready.
- Pour: Carefully remove the kettle from the heat source using the cool-touch handle. Press the lever on the spout to open the whistle and pour the hot water slowly and steadily.

4. Maintenance and Cleaning
Proper care will ensure the longevity and appearance of your kettle.
- Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn stains, use a mild detergent and rinse thoroughly. Dry immediately to prevent water spots.
- Interior Cleaning: For general cleaning, rinse the interior with warm water. For descaling, fill the kettle with a mixture of water and white vinegar (1:1 ratio) or a commercial descaling solution. Bring to a boil, then let it sit for 15-30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly several times.
- Not Dishwasher Safe: Do not place the kettle in a dishwasher. Hand wash only.
- Storage: Store the kettle in a dry place when not in use.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your kettle, refer to the following common solutions:
- Kettle Not Whistling: Ensure the lid is securely closed and the spout cap is fully engaged. Insufficient water or a loose lid can prevent whistling.
- Water Not Boiling: Verify that the kettle is placed correctly on the heat source and that the heat source is active and set to an appropriate level.
- Rust Spots: The kettle is made of stainless steel, which is corrosion-resistant. However, mineral deposits from water can sometimes appear as rust spots. These are usually removable with descaling solutions or a stainless steel cleaner.
- Handle Overheating: Always ensure the handle is in an upright position during heating. If the handle becomes too hot, allow the kettle to cool before handling.
