2. Setup and Installation
The SHAD SH38X side cases require a specific SHAD mounting system for installation on your motorcycle. Mounting hardware is not included with the side cases and must be purchased separately.
2.1 Required Mounting Systems
These side cases are designed for use with either a SHAD 3P System fitting kit or a SHAD 4P System fitting kit, specific to your motorcycle model. Compatibility with non-SHAD mounting systems is not guaranteed.
- 3P System: A dedicated fitting kit for various motorcycle models.
- 4P System: Requires an additional mounting adapter (part number 204632R), sold separately, for installation.

2.2 Digital Instruction Manual
In line with SHAD's environmental policy, a paper instruction manual is not included. For detailed, step-by-step installation instructions specific to your mounting system, please locate the QR code sticker inside one of the cases. Scan this QR code with your smartphone or tablet to access the digital instruction manual on the SHAD website.
2.3 Key Unification (Optional)
The right-side case includes a spare key cylinder and two keys. This allows you to replace the key cylinder on a SHAD top case (sold separately) to unify the keys for both your side cases and top case, providing a single-key solution for all your SHAD luggage.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Expanding and Retracting the Case
The SH38X features a tension cable system and four internal guides that allow for smooth and uniform expansion and retraction. This process can be performed with one hand in a matter of seconds.
- To expand, locate the expansion mechanism (usually a lever or button) and activate it while gently pulling the case outwards.
- To retract, activate the mechanism and gently push the case inwards until it locks into its compact position.
3.2 Opening and Closing the Case
The cases feature a keyless opening mechanism for quick access. Use the key to unlock the case, then press the release button or lever to open the lid. To close, simply press the lid down until it latches securely. Ensure the case is properly closed before riding.
3.3 Using the Integrated Handle
Each case is equipped with a retractable handle for easy carrying when detached from the motorcycle. To deploy the handle, press the release button and pull it upwards. To retract, push it back down until it clicks into place.

3.4 Helmet Storage
When fully expanded, the SH38X side case can accommodate a system helmet. For helmets with spoilers, it is recommended to place the helmet with the top part facing the lid of the case to ensure a proper fit.

3.5 Inner Tray and Padding
The cases include an inner tray for organizing smaller items. Some models may also feature inner padding for added protection of contents.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Key Cylinder Lubrication
To ensure smooth and reliable operation of the key cylinders, apply a rust-preventive lubricant to the keyhole approximately once every six months. This will help prevent stiffness and wear.
4.2 Storage Precautions
When storing the side cases, especially for extended periods, avoid placing them sideways or upside down. Storing them in an improper orientation may lead to deformation of the case structure over time.
4.3 Cleaning
Clean the cases with a mild soap and water solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the finish. While the cases offer good weather resistance, direct high-pressure water (e.g., from a pressure washer) may cause minor water ingress. Exercise caution when cleaning.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Stiff Key Cylinder
If the key cylinder feels stiff or difficult to turn, apply a small amount of rust-preventive lubricant into the keyhole. Insert and remove the key several times to distribute the lubricant.
5.2 Water Ingress
While designed to be weather-resistant, no case is entirely waterproof under all conditions. If you experience water ingress, check the seals around the lid for any damage or debris. Avoid exposing the cases to direct, high-pressure water streams, such as those from a pressure washer.
5.3 Case Not Expanding/Retracting Smoothly
Ensure that no debris is obstructing the tension cable system or the four internal guides. Lightly lubricate moving parts if necessary, using a silicone-based lubricant suitable for plastics.
5.4 Incompatibility with Mounting System
The SH38X cases are specifically designed for SHAD 3P or 4P fitting systems. If you are using a different brand's mounting system, compatibility cannot be guaranteed. Ensure you have the correct SHAD fitting kit for your motorcycle model.
