4. Installation Steps

A well-executed project begins with a well-thought-out plan of action. Follow these steps for successful installation:

Video: Official Armstrong Flooring Peel and Stick Installation Guide. This video demonstrates the entire installation process, from preparation to final rolling.

4.1 Planning the Layout

  1. Locate Wall Centers: Begin by locating the center of each wall in the room.
  2. Strike Chalk Lines: Strike a chalk line at the center of the room, connecting the midpoints of opposite walls.
  3. Divide into Quadrants: Measure the distance of the first chalk line and divide by two to find the center of the room. Using a carpenter's square at this marked center, snap another chalk line perpendicular to the first, dividing the room into four quadrants.
  4. Dry Run: Perform a dry run by positioning your Armstrong Peel and Stick tiles in one quadrant of the room without removing the release paper. This helps map out the floor and tile placement.

4.2 Adjusting Layout for Edge Tiles

If edge tiles are less than half the tile width during your dry run, mark a new center line. For the best appearance, it is recommended to shift the center line of the room by half the width of the tile to ensure larger, more aesthetically pleasing cuts at the edges.

4.3 Tile Placement

  1. Peel Release Paper: Peel the release paper off the backside of the tile.
  2. Install from Center: Begin installing tiles at the center of the room, working one tile at a time, and one quadrant at a time.
  3. Directional Arrows: Ensure all directional arrows on the back of the tiles face the same direction for a consistent pattern.
  4. Butt Edges: Butt the edges of the tiles together tightly.
  5. Press Firmly: Press each tile firmly into place.

4.4 Final Rolling

After placing the tiles, use a roller to firmly roll the tiles to the subfloor in all directions. This ensures a strong bond and proper adhesion.

5. Cutting Tiles

5.1 Making Straight Cuts

To make a straight cut on your Armstrong Peel and Stick tile:

  1. Place a full tile face up on top of the last full tile.
  2. Place another full tile (Tile B) on top of Tile A, with its edge against the wall.
  3. Using Tile B as a guide, draw a line with a pencil on the face of Tile A.
  4. Cut Tile A along this line using a utility knife.

5.2 Cutting Around Obstacles

For cutting around obstacles such as pipes or irregular shapes:

  1. Create a pattern first by drawing the outline of the obstacle onto a piece of paper or cardboard.
  2. Trace this pattern onto the vinyl tile.
  3. Carefully cut the tile according to the traced pattern using a utility knife, trimming as necessary to ensure a proper fit.

6. Post-Installation Care

Once the entire peel and stick installation process is complete for your space, you can replace all wall base and molding.

Important: Do not wash your new floor for five days following installation. This allows the adhesive to fully cure and ensures the longevity of your flooring, as per our warranty and care instructions.
