5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
The MASTECH MY64 requires 2 LR44 batteries (included). To install or replace batteries:
- Ensure the multimeter is turned OFF and disconnect all test leads from the input jacks.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
- Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw(s) securing the battery cover.
- Remove the cover.
- Insert the 2 LR44 batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw(s).
5.2 Connecting Test Leads
Always connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack. Connect the red test lead to the appropriate positive (+) input jack based on the measurement you intend to make:
- For Voltage, Resistance, Frequency, Diode, Continuity, and Capacitance measurements, connect the red lead to the "VΩHz" jack.
- For current measurements up to 200mA, connect the red lead to the "mA" jack.
- For high current measurements up to 10A, connect the red lead to the "10A" jack.
6. Operating Instructions
Before taking any measurement, ensure the meter is set to the correct function and range. Always refer to the safety information before proceeding.
6.1 DC Voltage Measurement (V=)
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩHz" jack.
- Set the rotary switch to the desired DC Voltage range (e.g., 200mV, 2V, 20V, 200V, 1000V). If the voltage is unknown, start with the highest range and decrease as needed.
- Connect the test leads in parallel to the circuit or component under test.
- Read the voltage value on the LCD display.
6.2 AC Voltage Measurement (V~)
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩHz" jack.
- Set the rotary switch to the desired AC Voltage range (e.g., 200V, 750V).

6.5 Resistance Measurement (Ω)
- Important: Disconnect power from the circuit and discharge all capacitors before measuring resistance.

- Reverse the leads. The display should show "OL" (Open Loop) for a good diode.

- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩHz" jack.
- Set the rotary switch to the Continuity Test function.

- Set the rotary switch to the hFE function.
- Identify if the transistor is NPN or PNP.
- Insert the transistor leads (Emitter, Base, Collector) into the corresponding holes in the hFE socket.

- Important: Disconnect power from the circuit and fully discharge the capacitor before testing.
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩHz" jack.
- Set the rotary switch to the desired Capacitance range (e.g., 2nF, 20nF, 200nF, 2µF, 20µF, 100µF).
- Connect the test leads across the capacitor.
- Read the capacitance value on the LCD display.
6.10 Temperature Measurement (Temp)
- Connect the K-type thermocouple (included) to the "Temp" socket, observing polarity.
