1. Introduction

The FLAMMA FX50 is a compact and versatile multi-effects pedal designed for guitarists. It integrates a wide range of effects, drum rhythms, and a tuner into a portable unit, suitable for practice, recording, and small gigs. This manual provides detailed instructions to help you get the most out of your FX50 pedal.

2. Product Overview

The FX50 features an intuitive layout with dedicated knobs for various effects and functions. Below is an overview of the pedal's main components and controls.

Controls and Connections:

  • VOL Knob: Adjusts the overall output volume.
  • MOD Knob: Selects and adjusts modulation effects (Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo).
  • DLY/REV Knob: Selects and adjusts delay and reverb effects (Echo, Room, Hall, Delay).
  • DRUM/VALUE Knob: Selects drum rhythms and adjusts their volume. Press and hold for Tuner function.
  • GAIN Knob: Adjusts the gain level for drive effects.
  • DRIVE Knob: Selects and adjusts various drive effects (Distortion, Overdrive, Crunch, Fuzz, Clean).
  • TONE Knob: Adjusts the overall tone, from bass-heavy to treble-heavy.
  • Patch Buttons: Navigates through preset and user patches.
  • Store Button: Saves user-defined patches.
  • Power Switch: Turns the unit on/off.
  • Cab Sim Switch: Toggles cabinet simulation on/off.
  • DC IN Jack: For 9V DC power adapter.
  • PHONES Jack: 1/8" stereo audio jack for headphones.
  • OUTPUT Jack: 1/4" mono audio jack for connecting to a guitar amplifier.
  • AUX In Jack: 1/8" stereo audio jack for connecting external music players.
  • INPUT Jack: 1/4" mono audio jack for connecting your guitar.

3. Setup

3.1 Power Supply

The FX50 can be powered by either a DC 9V adapter (included) or two AAA batteries (not included).

  • DC 9V Adapter: Connect the included 9V DC adapter to the DC IN jack. Ensure the adapter's plug polarity is positive on the barrel and negative in the center.
  • Batteries: To use batteries, open the battery compartment on the back of the pedal and insert two AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity.

3.2 Connecting Your Gear

  1. Guitar Connection: Connect your electric guitar to the INPUT Jack using a 1/4" mono audio cable.
  2. Output Connection:
    • For headphones, connect to the PHONES Jack (1/8" stereo audio jack).
    • For an amplifier, connect to the OUTPUT Jack (1/4" mono audio jack).
  3. External Music Player: Connect an external music player (e.g., smartphone, MP3 player) to the AUX In Jack (1/8" stereo audio jack) to play along with backing tracks.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

Flip the Power Switch to the 'On' position to power on the unit. Flip it to 'Off' to power down.

4.2 Volume Control

Adjust the VOL Knob to set the desired output volume. This controls the overall loudness of your guitar signal and any active effects.

4.3 Effects Modules

The FX50 features 5 effects modules with a total of 15 effects. Each module has a dedicated knob to select and adjust the effect intensity.

  • MOD (Modulation): Turn the MOD Knob to select between Chorus (CH), Flanger (FL), Phaser (PH), and Tremolo (TR) effects. The position of the knob also adjusts the intensity of the selected effect.
  • DLY/REV (Delay/Reverb): Turn the DLY/REV Knob to select between Echo, Room, Hall, and Delay effects. The knob position also controls the intensity of the selected effect.
  • DRIVE: Turn the DRIVE Knob to select between Distortion (DS), Overdrive (OD), Crunch (CR), Fuzz (FZ), and Clean (CL) tones. The knob position adjusts the intensity of the drive.
  • GAIN: Use the GAIN Knob to fine-tune the input gain for the drive effects.
  • TONE: Use the TONE Knob to adjust the overall tonal character, from darker (bass-heavy) to brighter (treble-heavy).
  • Cab Sim: Use the Cab Sim Switch to toggle cabinet simulation on or off. This is particularly useful when connecting directly to a mixer or audio interface for a more natural amplified sound.

4.4 Drum Machine

The FX50 includes a drum machine with 40 rhythms and a tempo range of 60-270 BPM.

  1. Select Drum Rhythm: Press the DRUM/VALUE Knob to enter Drum status. Rotate the knob to select a rhythm type (01-40).
  2. Adjust Drum Rhythm Volume: Press the DRUM/VALUE Knob again. Rotate the knob to change the rhythm volume (00-09).
  3. Start/Stop Drum Machine: Use the dedicated Play/Pause button to start or stop the drum rhythm.

4.5 Patches

The FX50 offers 32 patches: 16 preset patches and 16 user patches. These allow you to save and recall your favorite effect combinations and settings.

  • Select Patch: Use the Patch Buttons to cycle through the available patches.
  • Store Patch: After adjusting effects to your preference, press the Store Button to save your settings to a user patch location.

4.6 Tuner Function

The built-in tuner allows for precise tuning of your guitar.

  1. Activate Tuner: Press and hold the DRUM/VALUE Knob for approximately 2 seconds to access the tuner mode.
  2. Tune Guitar: Play a single string. The display will show the current pitch (A-G) and indicate whether the note is flat, correct, or sharp. Adjust your guitar's tuning pegs until the display shows a correct pitch.
  3. Exit Tuner: Press the DRUM/VALUE Knob again to exit tuner mode.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your FLAMMA FX50 pedal, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the pedal's surface. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the pedal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Replacement: When the pedal's performance degrades or the power indicator light dims, replace the AAA batteries. Ensure correct polarity when inserting new batteries.
  • Handling: Avoid dropping the pedal or subjecting it to strong impacts. Do not attempt to disassemble the unit, as this will void the warranty.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your FLAMMA FX50, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Sound:
    • Check all cable connections (guitar, output, power).
    • Ensure the pedal is powered on and the power adapter is functioning correctly, or batteries are fresh and correctly inserted.
    • Verify the VOL knob is turned up.
    • Check if the guitar's volume knob is turned up.
  • Unexpected Effects/Sound:
    • Check the settings of the MOD, DLY/REV, DRIVE, and TONE knobs.
    • Ensure the correct patch is selected.
    • If using headphones, ensure they are properly connected to the PHONES jack.
  • Tuner Not Responding:
    • Ensure the guitar is properly connected to the INPUT jack.
    • Make sure you are playing a single note clearly.
  • Drum Machine Not Playing:
    • Verify a drum rhythm is selected and the volume is turned up.
    • Press the Play/Pause button to start the rhythm.
