Rakstore HLK-LD2410C Human Presence Sensor Module User Manual

1. Introduction

The HLK-LD2410C is a high-sensitivity 24GHz human presence status sensing module developed by Hilink Electronics. This module utilizes Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) technology to detect human targets within a defined space. Through advanced radar signal processing and a precise human body induction algorithm, it achieves highly sensitive human presence detection, capable of identifying both moving and stationary human bodies. It also provides auxiliary information such as the distance to the target.

This product is primarily designed for indoor applications to sense the presence of moving or micro-moving human bodies and output real-time detection results. It offers a maximum sensing distance of up to 6 meters with a distance resolution of 0.75 meters.

HLK-LD2410C Pinout Diagram

Figure 2: HLK-LD2410C Pinout Diagram. This diagram illustrates the connection points: TX (UART Transmit), RX (UART Receive), OUT (GPIO Output, High when human detected), GND (Ground), and VCC (5V Power Supply).

  • VCC: Power positive (5V DC input).
  • GND: Ground connection.
  • OUT: GPIO output. This pin goes high when a human is detected.
  • RX: UART Receive pin.
  • TX: UART Transmit pin.

3.2 Power Supply

Connect a stable 5V DC power source to the VCC and GND pins. Ensure the power supply can provide sufficient current for the module's operation.

3.3 Data Interface

The module supports both GPIO and UART communication. For basic presence detection, the OUT pin can be used. For detailed data and configuration, connect the TX and RX pins to a UART interface (e.g., a microcontroller or a USB-to-serial converter).

4. Operating Instructions

The HLK-LD2410C module operates by emitting 24GHz FMCW radar signals and analyzing the reflections to detect human presence. It can distinguish between moving and stationary targets.

4.1 Sensing Range and Placement

The module can detect human presence up to 6 meters. Optimal placement depends on the desired detection area. Consider mounting it on the ceiling or a wall for best coverage.

HLK-LD2410C Sensing Range and Placement Examples

Figure 3: HLK-LD2410C Sensing Range and Placement Examples. This image illustrates typical installation scenarios: ceiling mount (2.6-3m high) for overhead coverage and wall mount (1.5-2m high) for horizontal coverage, showing the effective detection cone.

  • Ceiling Mount: Typically installed at 2.6-3 meters high for broad area coverage.
  • Wall Mount: Typically installed at 1.5-2 meters high for directional coverage.

4.2 Visual Configuration Tool

The module provides a visual configuration tool for PC, allowing users to easily adjust sensing parameters. This tool connects via a serial port and enables configuration of sensing distance range, sensitivity for different intervals, and unmanned delay time.

Figure 4: HLK-LD2410C Visual Configuration Tool Interface. This screenshot displays the PC software interface used to configure the sensor module, showing parameters like moving target and motionless target detection, sensitivity settings, and real-time data visualization.

Using the Host Computer Tool:

  1. Connect the module's serial port to your PC using a USB-to-serial tool.
  2. In the configuration software, select the correct serial port number.
  3. Set the baud rate to 256000.
  4. Select "Engineering Mode" and click "Connect Device".
  5. Upon successful connection, click the "Start" button. The graphical interface will display test results and data.
  6. To read or set parameters, ensure the "Start" button is not clicked, or click "Stop" before making changes. Configuration can only be performed when the module is stopped.

6. Maintenance

The HLK-LD2410C module is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure its longevity:

  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the module within its specified temperature and humidity ranges. Avoid extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and high humidity.
  • Cleaning: Keep the module clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Physical Handling: Handle the module with care to prevent physical damage to the components or connectors. Avoid static discharge when handling.
  • Power Supply: Ensure a stable and correct 5V power supply is always used. Incorrect voltage can damage the module.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your HLK-LD2410C module, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • No Detection:
    • Verify the 5V power supply is correctly connected and stable.
    • Check all wiring connections (VCC, GND, OUT, TX, RX) for proper contact.
    • Ensure the module is placed within the optimal sensing range and orientation (refer to Section 4.1).
    • Confirm that the detection area is clear of obstructions that might block radar signals.
    • If using the configuration tool, check the sensitivity settings; they might be too low.
  • Incorrect Detection:
    • Adjust the sensitivity parameters using the visual configuration tool (refer to Section 4.2).
    • Ensure there are no strong interfering 24GHz signals in the environment.
    • Verify the module's firmware is up to date (if applicable, check manufacturer's website).
  • UART Communication Issues:
    • Confirm the baud rate is set to 256000 in your host system or configuration tool.
    • Check TX/RX connections; ensure TX of one device is connected to RX of the other, and vice-versa.
    • Verify the serial port driver is correctly installed on your PC.
  • Module Not Powering On:
    • Double-check the power supply voltage (must be 5V) and polarity.
    • Inspect the module for any visible physical damage.
