  • LINE OUT (RCA): Provides a full-range signal output for connecting additional amplifiers.
  • INPUT (RCA): Connects to your head unit's RCA pre-outs.
  • INPUT LEVEL: Adjusts the input sensitivity to match the head unit's output voltage.
  • SUBSONIC FILTER: Variable 24 dB filter to remove ultra-low frequencies below the audible range, protecting subwoofers.
  • LOWPASS FILTER: Variable 12 dB filter to allow only frequencies below the set point to pass, ideal for subwoofers.
  • BASS BOOST: Adjusts the bass level at a specific frequency.
  • PHASE SHIFT: Allows adjustment of the output phase (0° or 180°) to optimize bass response with other speakers.
  • PRT (Protection) LED: Illuminates when the amplifier is in protection mode due to overload, short circuit, or overheating.
  • PWR (Power) LED: Illuminates when the amplifier is powered on and operating normally.
  • REMOTE CONTROL: Port for connecting the wired remote bass control knob.

  • 2 Ohm Capability: Allows for flexible speaker configurations and maximum power output.
  • Bass Remote: Included wired remote for convenient bass level adjustment.
  • Monoblock Design: Optimized for driving subwoofers with dedicated power.

5. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your amplifier. If you are not confident in your ability to install this unit, please seek professional assistance.

5.1. Mounting Location

Choose a mounting location that is dry, well-ventilated, and protected from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Common locations include under a seat, in the trunk, or behind a panel. Ensure there is sufficient airflow around the amplifier for cooling.

5.2. Wiring Connections

Before making any connections, disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal.

  1. Power Connection (+12V): Run a power cable (recommended 8-gauge or larger for 600W) directly from the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery to the amplifier's +12V terminal. Install an inline fuse holder within 18 inches (45 cm) of the battery. The fuse rating should match the amplifier's requirements (check specifications).
  2. Ground Connection (GND): Connect a ground cable (same gauge as power cable) from the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a solid, low-resistance connection. The ground cable should be as short as possible, ideally less than 3 feet (1 meter).
  3. Remote Turn-On Connection (REM): Connect a remote turn-on wire (18-gauge or 20-gauge) from the head unit's remote output (usually blue/white wire) to the amplifier's REM terminal. This wire turns the amplifier on and off with the head unit.
  4. RCA Input Connection: Connect RCA cables from the head unit's subwoofer pre-out (or full-range pre-out if using high-level input converter) to the amplifier's INPUT RCA jacks.
  5. Speaker Output Connection: Connect your subwoofer(s) to the amplifier's SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). This amplifier is a monoblock, designed for a single subwoofer or multiple subwoofers wired to a single channel. Verify the total impedance of your speaker load is compatible (2 ohms minimum for this amplifier).
  6. Remote Bass Control Connection: Plug the remote bass control cable into the REMOTE CONTROL port on the amplifier and mount the knob in a convenient location for adjustment.

5.3. Initial Settings

After all connections are made, reconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal.

6. Operating the Amplifier

Once installed and configured, the amplifier will turn on automatically with your head unit. The PWR LED will illuminate green, indicating normal operation. If the PRT LED illuminates red, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

7. Maintenance

The DB Drive SPA6.1M amplifier requires minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure its longevity:

8. Troubleshooting

If you experience problems with your amplifier, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power (PWR LED off)
  • Blown fuse
  • Poor power/ground connection
  • No remote turn-on signal
  • Check and replace fuse (same rating).
  • Verify +12V, GND, and REM connections. Ensure good chassis ground.
  • Check head unit's remote output.
Protection Mode (PRT LED on)
  • Overheating
  • Speaker short circuit
  • Speaker impedance too low
  • DC offset
  • Allow amplifier to cool down. Ensure proper ventilation.
  • Check speaker wiring for shorts.
  • Verify speaker impedance is 2 ohms or higher.
  • Disconnect speakers and RCA inputs. If PRT LED goes off, consult professional.
No Sound
  • RCA input cables disconnected/faulty
  • Speaker wires disconnected/faulty
  • Gain set too low
  • Head unit settings
  • Check RCA connections at both amplifier and head unit.
  • Verify speaker wire connections at amplifier and subwoofer.
  • Increase INPUT LEVEL (gain) slowly.
  • Ensure head unit's subwoofer output is enabled and volume is up.
Distorted Sound
  • Gain set too high
  • Speaker impedance too low
  • Poor ground connection
  • Damaged speaker
  • Reduce INPUT LEVEL (gain).
  • Verify speaker impedance is 2 ohms or higher.
  • Improve ground connection.
  • Test with a different speaker.
