General Installation Steps:

  1. Prepare Motherboard: Ensure your motherboard is removed from the PC case or has sufficient access to the CPU socket area.
  2. Install Backplate: Depending on your CPU socket (Intel or AMD), attach the appropriate backplate to the rear of the motherboard.
  3. Attach Mounting Brackets: Secure the correct mounting brackets to the front side of the motherboard around the CPU socket.
  4. Apply Thermal Paste: Apply a small amount of thermal paste (included) to the center of the CPU's integrated heat spreader (IHS).
  5. Mount Cooler: Carefully place the IS-40-XT cooler onto the CPU, aligning the mounting holes with the brackets. Secure the cooler using the provided screws, tightening them in a diagonal pattern until snug.
  6. Connect Fan Cable: Connect the 4-pin PWM fan cable to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard.

Operating Principles

The ID-COOLING IS-40-XT utilizes a combination of direct-contact heat pipes and a PWM fan to efficiently transfer and dissipate heat from your CPU. The four direct-contact heat pipes draw heat directly from the CPU's surface, transferring it to the aluminum fin array. The 92mm PWM fan then pushes air through these fins, expelling the heat away from the CPU.

PWM Fan Control:

The 92mm fan features Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control, allowing your motherboard to automatically adjust the fan speed based on CPU temperature. This ensures optimal cooling performance when needed and quiet operation during lighter loads. The fan operates within a speed range of 800±200 to 2800RPM±10% (PWM), providing a maximum airflow of 46 CFM.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your CPU cooler.

  • Dust Removal: Periodically (e.g., every 3-6 months), use compressed air to gently blow dust out of the heatsink fins and fan blades. Ensure the fan is not spinning rapidly during this process to prevent damage to the bearing.
  • Fan Inspection: Check the fan for any obstructions or signs of wear. Ensure the fan blades are clean and free from debris.
  • Thermal Paste: While not typically required for routine maintenance, if you remove the cooler for any reason, it is recommended to clean off the old thermal paste from both the CPU and the cooler's base and apply new thermal paste before reinstallation.
  • Cable Management: Ensure the fan cable is not interfering with other components or fan blades.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ID-COOLING IS-40-XT cooler, consider the following:

  • High CPU Temperatures:
    • Verify the cooler is securely mounted and making proper contact with the CPU.
    • Check if thermal paste was applied correctly and sufficiently.
    • Ensure the fan is spinning. If not, check the fan cable connection to the motherboard's CPU_FAN header.
    • Confirm that your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings are configured for proper fan control (PWM mode).
    • Check for adequate airflow within your PC case.
  • Excessive Fan Noise:
    • Inspect the fan for any obstructions (e.g., cables, dust buildup) that might be causing noise.
    • Ensure the fan is securely attached to the heatsink.
    • Check your motherboard's fan control settings; you might be able to adjust the fan curve to reduce noise at lower temperatures.
  • Fan Not Spinning:
    • Ensure the 4-pin fan connector is fully seated in the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard.
    • Check BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure the CPU_FAN header is enabled and configured correctly.
    • Test the fan on another fan header if available, or with a fan tester, to rule out a faulty fan.
