Setup and Installation
This fill valve is a replacement for Cane 4.8L and 6L toilets, and Carson 4.8/3L dual flush toilets. Follow these steps for proper installation:
- Turn Off Water Supply: Locate the shut-off valve on the wall behind or near the toilet and turn it clockwise until the water flow stops completely.
- Empty Toilet Tank: Flush the toilet to drain most of the water from the tank. Use a sponge or towel to remove any remaining water.
- Disconnect Old Fill Valve:
- Unscrew the water supply line from the bottom of the old fill valve.
- Unscrew the large mounting nut from the underside of the toilet tank that secures the old fill valve.
- Remove the old fill valve from the tank.
- Prepare New Fill Valve: Ensure the washer is correctly seated on the threaded shank of the new Master Plumber 229CT fill valve.
- Install New Fill Valve:
- Insert the new fill valve into the hole at the bottom of the toilet tank, ensuring the float mechanism has clearance from the tank walls and other components.
- From the underside of the tank, hand-tighten the mounting nut onto the threaded shank of the fill valve. Do not overtighten, as this can crack the tank.
- Connect Refill Tube: Attach one end of the refill tube to the small port on the top of the fill valve. Clip the other end of the refill tube to the overflow pipe in the toilet tank. Ensure the tube is positioned above the water line.
- Reconnect Water Supply: Connect the water supply line to the threaded shank at the bottom of the new fill valve. Hand-tighten, then use a wrench for a final quarter-turn to ensure a snug, leak-free connection. Do not overtighten.
- Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn the water supply valve counter-clockwise to restore water flow to the toilet tank.
- Check for Leaks: Carefully inspect all connections for any signs of water leakage. Tighten connections slightly if leaks are observed.
- Adjust Water Level: The fill valve is designed to automatically fill the tank to the correct level. If adjustment is needed, refer to the "Operating Instructions" section for details on how to fine-tune the water level.

Operating Instructions
The Master Plumber 229CT fill valve operates automatically to refill your toilet tank after each flush. The float mechanism senses the water level and shuts off the water flow once the desired level is reached.
Adjusting Water Level:
The water level in the toilet tank should typically be about 1 inch below the top of the overflow pipe. To adjust the water level:
- Locate the adjustment screw or clip on the fill valve's float arm or body.
- Turn the screw clockwise to raise the water level or counter-clockwise to lower it. For clip-style floats, slide the clip up or down the rod.
- Flush the toilet to test the new water level. Repeat adjustment if necessary until the desired level is achieved.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance can extend the life of your fill valve and ensure efficient operation.
- Periodic Cleaning: Over time, mineral deposits from water can accumulate inside the fill valve, affecting its performance. If you notice slow filling or inconsistent water levels, turn off the water supply, remove the fill valve, and gently clean any visible mineral buildup with a soft brush and vinegar solution. Rinse thoroughly before reinstallation.
- Inspect Components: Periodically check the refill tube for kinks or blockages. Ensure the float mechanism moves freely without obstruction.
