1. Introduction

2. What's in the Box

3. Product Overview

3.1 Radio Unit Features

The DB40-G features a compact design with a clear dual display and intuitive controls. Its robust construction includes a large heat sink for efficient cooling without the need for an internal fan.

3.2 Handheld Microphone

The included handheld microphone provides full control over the radio's functions, allowing for convenient operation without needing to interact directly with the main unit. It features a robust connector to prevent accidental disconnections.

4. Setup

4.1 Mounting the Radio

The DB40-G comes with a sturdy mounting bracket suitable for vehicle installation. Choose a location that allows for easy access to the radio's controls and display, and ensures proper ventilation around the heat sink.

  1. Secure the mounting bracket to a flat surface using the provided screws.
  2. Attach the radio unit to the bracket, ensuring it is firmly seated.
  3. Mount the microphone bracket in a convenient location using its adhesive backing or screws.

4.2 Power Connection

Connect the provided power cable to the radio unit and to a 12V DC power source in your vehicle. Ensure the connection is secure and properly fused to prevent electrical damage.

4.3 Antenna Connection

Connect a suitable GMRS antenna (not included) to the SO-239 antenna connector on the rear of the radio unit. For optimal performance, ensure your antenna is properly tuned for the GMRS frequency band.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off and Volume

To power on the radio, press and hold the volume knob. Rotate the knob to adjust the audio volume.

5.2 Channel Selection

The DB40-G supports 169 customizable channels, including GMRS repeater channels and UHF RX. Use the channel knob on the radio or the up/down buttons on the microphone to select channels. Direct frequency input is also possible via the microphone keypad.

5.3 Dual Watch and Dual Display

The dual watch and dual display feature allows you to monitor two channels simultaneously. This is particularly useful for monitoring a primary communication channel while also keeping an ear on an emergency or secondary channel.

5.4 VOX Hands-Free Function

Activate the VOX (Voice Operated Exchange) function for hands-free communication. This allows you to transmit by speaking into the microphone without needing to press the PTT button, enhancing safety during driving.

5.5 Repeater Operation

The DB40-G is repeater-capable, allowing for extended communication range. You can customize repeater channels and switch between different CTCSS/DCS codes to optimize connections, especially for long-distance or cross-area travel.
