Gel Polish Application Steps

For best results, follow these general steps for gel polish application. Always refer to your specific gel polish brand's instructions for precise curing times.

  1. Prep: Clean and prep nails. Gently push back cuticles and buff the nail surface.
  2. Base Coat: Apply a thin layer of gel base coat. Cure under the SUNUV lamp for the recommended time (e.g., 30-60 seconds).
  3. Color Coat: Apply a thin layer of gel color polish. Cure under the lamp for the recommended time. Repeat with additional thin coats until desired opacity is achieved, curing each layer.
  4. Top Coat: Apply a thin layer of gel top coat. Cure under the lamp for the recommended time (e.g., 60-90 seconds).
  5. Cleanse: If your top coat is a 'tacky' or 'wipe' top coat, cleanse the sticky inhibition layer with a lint-free wipe saturated with isopropyl alcohol (99%) for a high-shine finish.

Compatibility

The SUNUV SUN2C lamp is compatible with all types of gel nail polishes, including base coats, top coats, color gels, hard gels, builder gels, and acrylic gels. It is not designed for regular nail polish, which dries by air.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the power adapter before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the lamp. For the interior and removable base, you may use a cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to remove any gel residue. Ensure the lamp is completely dry before reconnecting power.
  • Storage: Store the lamp in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in its original packaging or a protective case when not in use to prevent dust accumulation and damage.
  • Bulb Replacement: The UV/LED light beads are designed for long-term use and do not require regular replacement. If you experience issues with light output, please refer to the troubleshooting section or contact customer support.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Why Won't My Gel Polish Cure?
    A. It is normal for the base coat and color gel to be slightly sticky after drying. This sticky layer helps subsequent layers adhere. Only the top coat will fully cure and dry to a non-tacky finish. If the top coat remains sticky, wipe with isopropyl alcohol.
    B. Ensure you are using gel polishes. This lamp is not for regular nail polish.
  • My Gel Polish Is Taking Too Long To Dry.
    A. Curing time varies by gel polish brand. Always check the recommended curing time for your specific polish.
    B. Apply gel polish in thin layers. Thick layers may not cure properly and can lead to bubbling or peeling.
    C. Ensure your hand is positioned correctly inside the lamp, allowing all nails to receive adequate light exposure.
  • How Do I Avoid My Gel Polish From Stinging (Heat Spikes)?
    A. Heat spikes can occur with some gel polishes, especially builder gels or when nails are thin or damaged. Use the 90s Low Heat Mode setting, which gradually increases power to reduce heat sensation.
    B. Ensure you clean up any gel polish that may have gotten on your skin or cuticles before curing, as this can also cause discomfort.
  • Lamp Not Turning On.
    A. Check if the power adapter is securely plugged into both the lamp and the electrical outlet.
    B. Ensure the electrical outlet is functional.
