3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Unscrew the battery compartment cap at the top of the device.
  2. Insert three Lithium-metal coin cell batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Securely replace the battery compartment cap.

3.2 Initial Power On

Press the Power Button to turn on the device. The display will illuminate, showing the default measurement mode and temperature in Celsius.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 General Operation

  • Ensure the electrode is clean before each use.
  • Remove the protective pen cap.
  • Immerse the electrode into the water sample. Ensure the water level does not exceed the electrical limit or the height of the protective cover to prevent short circuits.
  • Wait for the reading to stabilize on the display.

4.2 Mode Switching

Press the MODE/CAL button to cycle through the 8 measurement indicators: Salinity, SG, pH, H2, TDS, ORP, EC, and Temperature.

4.3 Temperature Unit Conversion

Image showing the water quality tester display switching between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units.

Figure 4.1: Temperature Unit Conversion. The image illustrates how to switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) by long-pressing the TEMP button.

To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), press and hold the HOLD/TEMP button for 3 seconds. The device defaults to Celsius upon power-on.

4.4 Data Hold Function

To temporarily hold the current reading on the display, short press the HOLD/TEMP button. Press it again to release the hold and resume live readings.

4.5 Specific Measurement Parameters

4.5.1 pH Measurement

Image demonstrating pH testing of water used for washing vegetables, with a pH scale indicating alkaline, neutral, and acidic ranges.

Figure 4.2: pH Testing. The image shows the tester measuring pH in a water sample, alongside a pH scale from 0 to 14, highlighting the drinking water standard of 6.5-9.5.

The pH measurement indicates the acidity or alkalinity of the water. For drinking water, a pH standard of 6.5-9.5 is generally recommended.

4.5.2 H2 (Hydrogen) Measurement

Image showing the water quality tester measuring H2 content, with a person drinking water in the background.

Figure 4.3: H2 Testing. The image displays the tester measuring hydrogen content in water, with a measurement range of 0-2400 ppb.

Measures the concentration of dissolved hydrogen in water. The measurement range is 0-2400 ppb.

4.5.3 EC (Electrical Conductivity) Measurement

Image showing the water quality tester measuring EC in a glass of water, with details on measuring range and accuracy.

Figure 4.4: EC Testing. The image shows the tester immersed in a glass of water, displaying an EC reading. The measuring range is 0-200000 us/cm with an accuracy of ±2% F.S.

EC measures the electrical conductivity of total ions in water. It is primarily used for testing agricultural watering water and liquid fertilizer. The measuring range is 0-200000 us/cm with an accuracy of ±2% F.S.

4.5.4 ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) Measurement

Image showing the water quality tester measuring ORP and TDS in a glass of water, with explanations for both parameters.

Figure 4.5: ORP and TDS Testing. The image displays the tester measuring ORP and TDS. For ORP, it explains that a lower value indicates dirtier water, with a drinking water reference of +150-550mV. For TDS, it states that a higher value indicates more dissolved substances, with a measurement range of 0-100000ppm.

ORP indicates the presence of organic matter and microbiological conditions in water. A lower ORP value generally suggests poorer water quality. For drinking water, a reference ORP value is typically +150-550mV.

4.5.5 TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) Measurement

TDS reflects the concentration of minerals and other dissolved substances in the water. A higher TDS value indicates a greater amount of dissolved substances. The measurement range is 0-100000ppm.

4.5.6 Salinity Measurement

Image showing the water quality tester measuring salinity in a glass of water and specific gravity in seawater, with explanations for both.

Figure 4.6: Salinity and Specific Gravity Testing. The image shows the tester measuring salinity in a glass of water, with a range of 0-20%. It also depicts the tester in seawater for Specific Gravity (S.G) testing, with a range of 1.000-1.222.

Salinity measures the salt content in water. It is a crucial physicochemical factor in aquaculture environments. The measuring range is 0-20%.

4.5.7 SG (Specific Gravity) Measurement

Specific Gravity measures the density of dissolved salts in water, particularly relevant for seawater. The measurement range is 1.000-1.222.

5. Calibration

Regular calibration ensures accurate readings. Calibration powder is included with your device.

Step-by-step diagram for calibrating the pH meter using buffer powders.

Figure 5.1: pH Calibration Process. This diagram illustrates the five steps for calibrating the pH meter using pH 4.00, pH 6.86, and pH 9.18 buffer powders and distilled water.

5.1 pH Calibration Procedure

  1. Prepare buffer solutions: Empty each pack of pH 4.00, pH 6.86, and pH 9.18 powder into separate 250ml containers of distilled water. Stir gently until the powder is completely dissolved.
  2. Power on the water quality tester and select the pH measurement mode.
  3. Immerse the electrode into the pH 6.86 standard solution. Gently stir and wait for the reading to stabilize.
  4. Press and hold the MODE/CAL button for 6 seconds. The value will flash. Once the 6.86 reading stops flashing, the calibration for this point is complete. Rinse the probe with distilled water before proceeding.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the pH 4.00 and pH 9.18 solutions. After calibrating all three solutions, the pH calibration is finished.

Note: If the measured value is unstable, ensure the probe is clean. Rinse it with clean water to remove impurities and scale before attempting calibration.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, rinse the electrode thoroughly with clean water to remove any residue.
  • Storage: Always replace the protective pen cap after use to keep the electrode moist and protected. Store the device in a cool, dry place.
  • Battery Life: The device features an automatic shutdown function after 5 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery power. Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display.
  • Electrode Care: Do not allow the electrode to dry out completely. If the pH value reads 0, remove the electrode, air dry it, and reinsert it before performing a new test.

7. Troubleshooting
