Operating Instructions

Basic Operation

The NiZ Atom68-1M functions as a standard QWERTY keyboard. Simply connect it to your device, and it will be ready for use.

OS Switching (Windows/macOS)

The keyboard supports quick switching between Windows and macOS layouts. To switch, press and hold the designated key combination (refer to the keyboard's keycap legends or included quick guide for the specific FN combination, typically FN + A/S/D for different profiles or OS modes). The switch takes approximately 3 seconds.

FN Key Combinations

The keyboard features various functions accessible via the FN key. These combinations are typically printed on the keycaps. Common functions include:

  • Media controls (Play/Pause, Volume Up/Down, Mute)
  • Brightness adjustment
  • Application shortcuts

Refer to the specific keycap legends for detailed FN key functions.

Customization

Dedicated Software

For advanced customization, download and install the dedicated NiZ software (Windows only). This software allows you to:

  • Remap individual keys to different functions.
  • Create and assign macros for complex command sequences.
  • Adjust keyboard settings and save them to the keyboard's onboard memory, making them accessible on any device without the software running.

Please visit the official AKEEYO website for the latest software download and instructions.

Keycap Customization

The NiZ Atom68-1M uses Cherry MX compatible switch stems, allowing you to replace the default keycaps with a wide variety of aftermarket keycaps. Use the included keycap puller to safely remove and install keycaps.

Adjusting Key Weight

The keyboard comes with 10g pressure springs. To increase the key weight from 35g to 45g, carefully remove the keycap and place a 10g spring inside the switch stem before reattaching the keycap. This allows for a firmer typing experience.

Advanced Features

N-Key Rollover (NKRO)

The NiZ Atom68-1M supports N-Key Rollover, meaning every key press is registered independently, even when multiple keys are pressed simultaneously. This prevents 'ghosting' or missed inputs, which is crucial for fast typists and competitive gaming.

APC (Actuation Point Change) Function

The APC function allows you to adjust the actuation point (the point at which a key press is registered) of each individual key switch. There are 4 levels of adjustment available. This feature can be configured via the dedicated software and is particularly useful for gamers who require different response speeds for various in-game actions.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning Keycaps: Use a keycap puller to remove keycaps. Clean them with a mild soap solution and a soft cloth, then rinse and dry thoroughly before reattaching.
  • Cleaning the Keyboard Body: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the keyboard body. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, ensuring no moisture enters the switches or electronics.
  • Avoid Liquids: Do not spill liquids on the keyboard. If a spill occurs, immediately disconnect the keyboard and allow it to dry completely before reconnecting.
  • Dust Removal: Use compressed air to remove dust and debris from between the keycaps and switches.

Troubleshooting

Keyboard Not Responding

  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and your device.
  • Try connecting the keyboard to a different USB port on your device.
  • Test the keyboard on another computer to rule out a device-specific issue.
  • Restart your computer.

Specific Keys Not Working

  • Remove the keycap and inspect the switch for any visible debris. Use compressed air to clear it.
  • If you have adjusted key weight, ensure the spring is correctly seated and not interfering with the switch mechanism.
  • If using customization software, ensure the key has not been remapped to an unintended function or disabled. Reset to default settings if necessary.

Customization Software Issues

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the NiZ dedicated software installed from the official AKEEYO website.
  • Run the software as an administrator.
  • Ensure the keyboard is connected directly to your computer (not through a USB hub) when using the software.
