Setup Instructions
Follow these steps for proper installation of your Aqueon SmartClean Power Filter:
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all filter components from the packaging. Ensure all parts are present and undamaged. Refer to the detailed diagram for component identification.
- Assemble Intake Tube: Connect the intake tube sections, ensuring a secure fit. Attach the assembled intake tube to the bottom of the filter motor housing.
- Install Filter Cartridge: Insert the EcoRenew Filter Cartridge into the Bio-Holster. Then, place the Bio-Holster with the cartridge into the designated slot within the filter body. Ensure it sits correctly to allow proper water flow.
- Position Filter: Hang the filter securely on the back rim of your aquarium. Ensure the intake tube is fully submerged in the water and the filter body is level.
- Fill Aquarium: Ensure your aquarium is filled with water to the appropriate level, covering the intake tube and reaching the 'Water Level' indicator on the filter.
- Connect Power: Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. The auto-start pump will begin operating without manual priming.

Operation
Once installed, the Aqueon SmartClean Power Filter operates continuously to maintain water quality. The auto-start pump ensures reliable operation, even after power interruptions.
Adjusting Flow Rate
The filter features an adjustable flow rate to accommodate different aquarium inhabitants and conditions. Locate the flow adjustment knob on the top of the filter. Rotate the knob to increase or decrease the water flow as needed. Observe your fish and tank conditions to determine the optimal flow for your specific setup.

Regular maintenance is crucial for a healthy aquarium. The SmartClean Power Filter simplifies this process.
Performing Water Changes with SmartClean Technology
The SmartClean Technology allows for partial water changes without removing the filter from the aquarium. Follow these three steps:
- Rotate the Spout: Lift and rotate the filter nozzle to extend it over the edge of the aquarium.
- Remove Dirty Water: Push down on the nozzle to begin pumping water out of the aquarium into a collection bucket. Monitor the water level and stop when the desired amount of water has been removed.
- Replace with Fresh Water: Once the dirty water is removed, rotate the spout back into its original position and refill the aquarium with dechlorinated fresh water.

Replacing the EcoRenew Filter Cartridge
The EcoRenew Filter Cartridge should be replaced regularly, typically every 2-4 weeks, depending on your aquarium's bioload. The NoDrip design helps prevent spills during this process.
- Unplug Filter: Disconnect the filter from the power outlet before handling.
- Remove Old Cartridge: Carefully lift the filter cover. Grasp the Bio-Holster and gently pull it upwards to remove it from the filter body. Remove the old EcoRenew cartridge from the Bio-Holster.
- Install New Cartridge: Insert a new Aqueon EcoRenew Filter Cartridge into the Bio-Holster.
- Reinstall Bio-Holster: Place the Bio-Holster with the new cartridge back into the filter body, ensuring it is seated correctly.
- Replace Cover and Plug In: Secure the filter cover and plug the filter back into the power outlet.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Aqueon SmartClean Power Filter, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Filter Not Starting or Reduced Flow:
- Ensure the filter is properly plugged into a functional power outlet.
- Check that the water level in the aquarium is sufficient to submerge the intake tube.
- Inspect the intake tube and impeller for any blockages (e.g., debris, algae). Clean if necessary.
- Verify the impeller is correctly seated and not damaged.
- Ensure the filter cartridge is not excessively clogged, which can restrict flow. Replace if needed.
- Excessive Noise:
- Check for proper water level; insufficient water can cause air to be drawn in, leading to noise.
- Inspect the impeller for debris or damage. A worn or dirty impeller can cause rattling.
- Ensure the filter is securely hung on the aquarium rim and not vibrating against other surfaces.
- Power Interruption and Restart:
- The auto-start pump is designed to restart automatically after a power interruption. If it does not, check the power connection and ensure the impeller is free of obstructions.
- In some cases, if the filter runs dry for an extended period after a power failure, the motor may be damaged.
- Water Not Clear:
- Ensure the EcoRenew Filter Cartridge is not expired or excessively dirty. Replace as recommended.
- Check for proper water circulation and flow rate.
- Perform partial water changes more frequently if water quality issues persist.

The Company will, at its option, either repair or replace the product without charge (no cash refunds will be made).
