4. Installation Instructions

Professional installation is recommended. Always refer to your vehicle's specific service manual for torque specifications and detailed procedures. The following steps provide a general overview.

4.1. Preparation

  1. Ensure the engine is cool and disconnected from the battery.
  2. Drain engine oil and coolant.
  3. Remove all necessary components to access the cylinder heads and lifters (e.g., intake manifold, valve covers, rocker arms, pushrods).
  4. Clean all mating surfaces thoroughly to ensure proper sealing.

4.2. Lifter Pre-Lubrication

Before installation, it is crucial to lubricate the new hydraulic roller lifters to prevent dry start damage.

  • Submerge the lifters in clean engine oil for 10-15 minutes. This ensures all internal parts, including springs and rollers, are well-lubricated.

4.3. Camshaft Installation

If replacing the camshaft, ensure it is adequately lubricated before insertion into the engine block.

  • Apply a generous amount of assembly lube (e.g., Lucas High Performance Assembly Lube) to the camshaft lobes and journals.
  • Carefully slide the camshaft into the engine block, ensuring it does not bind or damage the bearings.

4.4. Lifter Installation

  • Carefully insert the pre-lubricated lifters into their respective bores in the engine block.
  • Install the lifter guides to hold the lifters in place.

Video 3: Step-by-step guide on how to install hydraulic lifters into an engine block, emphasizing proper lubrication and placement.

4.5. Gasket and Bolt Installation

  1. Place the new head gaskets onto the engine block, ensuring correct orientation.
  2. Install the cylinder heads and secure them with the new cylinder head bolts. Follow the manufacturer's specified torque sequence and values.
  3. Install the intake manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and other seals as required.

4.6. Reassembly and Fluid Refill

  1. Reinstall all removed components in reverse order.
  2. Refill the engine with the appropriate type and amount of engine oil and coolant.
  3. Reconnect the battery.
