This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your VTech VG131 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone. Please read this manual thoroughly to ensure proper use and to take full advantage of all features.
The VTech VG131 is a DECT 6.0 cordless phone designed for clear communication. It features a full-duplex speakerphone, backlit display and keypad, Caller ID/Call Waiting, volume control, and is hearing aid compatible. The unit is also wall-mountable for flexible placement.
2. Package Contents

3. Setup
3.1. Connecting the Base Unit
- Plug the AC adapter into the power jack on the back of the base unit.
- Plug the other end of the AC adapter into a wall outlet not controlled by a wall switch.
- Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the base unit.
- Plug the other end of the telephone line cord into a telephone wall jack.
3.2. Battery Installation and Charging
- Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the cordless handset.
- Connect the battery pack plug securely into the jack inside the compartment.
- Place the battery pack with the label UP into the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover.
- Place the handset in the base unit to charge. The CHARGE light on the handset will illuminate.
Allow the handset to charge for at least 10 hours before initial use. For optimal battery performance, keep the handset in the charger when not in use.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Making and Receiving Calls
- To Make a Call: Press TALK, then dial the phone number.
- To Answer a Call: When the phone rings, press TALK or any dialing key (0-9, * or #).
- To End a Call: Press OFF or place the handset in the base unit.
4.2. Full-Duplex Speakerphone
The handset features a full-duplex speakerphone, allowing both parties to speak and be heard simultaneously for more natural conversations.
- To Activate Speakerphone: During a call, press the Speakerphone button (often indicated by a speaker icon).
- To Deactivate Speakerphone: Press the Speakerphone button again to return to handset mode.

4.3. Caller ID and Call Waiting
The phone displays the caller's name and number, time, and date of incoming calls if you subscribe to Caller ID service from your telephone service provider.
- To Review Caller ID Log: Press CID to scroll through the Caller ID log.
- Call Waiting: If you subscribe to Call Waiting service, you will hear a tone when another call comes in. Press FLASH to switch between calls.

4.4. Phonebook Directory
Store frequently called numbers in the phonebook for quick dialing. The phonebook can store up to 30 names and numbers.
- To Add an Entry: Press MENU/SELECT, navigate to 'Phonebook', then 'Add Entry'. Follow the on-screen prompts.
- To Dial from Phonebook: Press the Phonebook button (often indicated by a book icon), scroll to the desired entry, then press TALK.

4.5. Volume Control
Adjust the earpiece and speakerphone volume during a call using the VOL▼ and VOL▲ buttons.
4.6. Mute Function
During a call, press the MUTE button to temporarily silence your microphone. The other party will not hear you. Press MUTE again to resume the conversation.
4.7. Flash Function
The FLASH button is used to answer an incoming call when you are already on another call (Call Waiting) or to access other telephone service provider features.

5. Wall Mounting
The VTech VG131 base unit can be easily mounted on a wall using a standard wall mount plate. No additional bracket is needed.
- Ensure the telephone line cord and AC adapter are connected to the base unit.
- Align the mounting holes on the back of the base unit with the studs on your wall mount plate.
- Slide the base unit down onto the studs until it locks securely into place.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Clean the phone and base unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning sprays or harsh chemicals.
