Model: SONVK-87680W4-US

Product Overview

The SWANN Master 4K 8 Channel Home Security Camera System provides comprehensive surveillance with advanced features. This system includes an 8-channel Network Video Recorder (NVR) with a pre-installed 1TB hard disk drive (HDD) and four Power over Ethernet (PoE) IP cameras designed for outdoor use.

The cameras offer 8MP resolution, delivering 4K Ultra HD video output, which provides four times greater clarity than 1080P systems. They are equipped with LED lights for color night vision up to 32 feet and black and white night vision up to 130 feet in total darkness.

Key features include continuous 24/7 recording capability, with an option for Swann True Detect heat and motion-triggered event-only recordings. This intelligent detection system helps reduce false alarms by identifying heat and motion signatures from people and vehicles. The system supports up to 365 days of stored video on the 1TB HDD, with expandability options.

Remote access and control are available through the Swann Security app, allowing live viewing and playback on iOS or Android smart devices. The system is designed for easy setup with a simple wired PoE connection for each camera.

Setup Guide

Setting up your SWANN security system is designed to be straightforward, thanks to its Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities. This means a single network cable provides both power and video transmission for each camera.

1. NVR Placement and Connection

  1. Choose a Secure Location: Place the NVR in a secure, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  2. Connect to Power: Connect the NVR Power Adapter to the NVR's Power Input port and then to a power outlet.
  3. Connect to Display: Use the HDMI cable to connect the NVR's HDMI Port to your TV or monitor. Alternatively, use a VGA cable for the VGA Port.
  4. Connect to Network: Connect one end of the shorter network cable (3ft/1m) to the NVR's WAN Port and the other end to your internet router. This is essential for remote viewing and software updates.
  5. Connect Mouse: Plug the included mouse into one of the NVR's USB Ports for navigation.

2. Camera Installation and Connection

  1. Select Camera Locations: Identify strategic outdoor locations for your cameras that provide optimal coverage and are within reach of the 60ft/18m network cables. Consider areas prone to activity, such as entry points, driveways, and backyards.
  2. Mount Cameras: Use the provided mounting screws to securely attach each camera to the chosen surface. Ensure the camera is positioned to capture the desired viewing angle.
  3. Connect Cameras: Connect one end of the 60ft/18m network cable to the Ethernet port on each camera. Connect the other end of the cable to one of the NVR's Camera PoE Ports. The NVR will automatically power the cameras and establish the video connection.

3. Initial System Configuration

Once all connections are made, power on the NVR. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the initial setup, which typically includes setting up a password, configuring network settings, and formatting the hard drive if prompted. Download the Swann Security app on your smartphone or tablet to connect your device to the NVR for remote access.

Operation

Your SWANN security system is designed for continuous monitoring and intelligent detection to keep your property secure.

Video Recording and Quality

The system records in 4K Ultra HD (8MP) resolution, providing clear and detailed video footage. The pre-installed 1TB HDD allows for continuous 24/7 recording, storing up to 365 days of video depending on settings and activity. You can also configure the system to record only when motion or heat is detected to conserve storage space.

Night Vision Capabilities

The cameras feature advanced night vision. With the integrated LED lights, you can achieve color night vision up to 32 feet. In complete darkness, the cameras automatically switch to black and white infrared night vision, providing visibility up to 130 feet.

True Detect Heat & Motion Detection

Swann's True Detect technology uses PIR (Passive Infrared) sensors to identify heat and motion signatures from large objects like people and vehicles. This intelligent detection minimizes false alarms caused by environmental factors such as rain, leaves, or insects. When triggered, the system can initiate recording, send alerts, and activate the camera's LED light.

Swann Security App

The Swann Security app allows you to remotely access and control your system from anywhere. You can view live feeds from all cameras, play back recorded footage, and adjust system settings directly from your smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android). The app also delivers real-time notifications for detected events.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your SWANN security system.

Camera Care

  • Cleaning Lenses: Periodically clean camera lenses with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust, dirt, or water spots that may obscure the view. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Weather Protection: The cameras feature IP66 weatherproof housing, designed to withstand various outdoor conditions, including rain and extreme temperatures ranging from -22°F (-30°C) to 131°F (55°C). While robust, ensure they are securely mounted to prevent dislodgement in high winds.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect all network cables for any signs of wear, damage, or loose connections. Secure any loose cables to prevent accidental disconnections.

NVR Care

  • Ventilation: Ensure the NVR has adequate ventilation to prevent overheating. Do not block ventilation openings.
  • Dust Removal: Keep the NVR free from dust accumulation by gently wiping its exterior with a dry cloth.
  • Software Updates: Periodically check for and install firmware updates for the NVR and cameras via the Swann Security app or NVR interface to ensure optimal performance and security.

Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your SWANN security system.

No Video Display

  • Check Power: Ensure the NVR is powered on and its power adapter is securely connected to both the NVR and a working power outlet.
  • Monitor Connection: Verify that the HDMI or VGA cable connecting the NVR to your monitor/TV is securely plugged in at both ends. Try a different cable or port if available.
  • Camera Connection: For individual cameras not displaying video, check the PoE network cable connection at both the camera and the NVR. Ensure the cable is not damaged.
  • NVR Status: Check the NVR's status lights. Refer to the NVR manual for specific light indicators.

Poor Image Quality

  • Clean Lens: Clean the camera lens as described in the Maintenance section.
  • Lighting Conditions: Ensure adequate lighting for optimal image quality, especially during the day. For night vision, ensure no obstructions are blocking the infrared LEDs or spotlight.
  • Resolution Settings: Verify that the camera's resolution settings on the NVR are set to 4K (8MP) for maximum clarity.

No Remote Access via App

  • Internet Connection: Ensure your NVR is connected to the internet via the WAN port and your router. Verify your home internet connection is active.
  • App Login: Double-check your login credentials for the Swann Security app.
  • NVR Network Settings: Confirm the NVR's network settings are correctly configured (e.g., DHCP enabled or static IP set correctly).
  • Firewall/Router Settings: If you have advanced network settings, ensure your router's firewall is not blocking the NVR's access to the internet or the necessary ports for remote viewing.

If you continue to experience issues, please refer to the Warranty & Support section for contact information.
