3. Setup and Initial Assembly

The Gerrit Electric Wheelchair is designed for quick setup. Follow these steps for initial assembly and preparation:

  1. Unfolding the Wheelchair:
    • Place the folded wheelchair on a flat, stable surface.
    • Gently pull the armrests outwards until the frame locks into place.
    • Lower the seat and ensure it is securely positioned.
    • Attach the footrests by sliding them into their designated slots until they click.
  2. Battery Installation and Charging:
    • Locate the battery compartment, typically under the seat or at the rear.
    • Insert the battery pack, ensuring it is properly seated and connected.
    • Connect the charger to the charging port on the joystick or battery pack.
    • Plug the charger into a standard electrical outlet. The indicator light on the charger will show charging status.

  3. Joystick Attachment:

4. Operating Instructions

Familiarize yourself with the controls before operating the wheelchair in a safe environment.

  1. Powering On/Off:
    • Press the power button on the joystick controller to turn the wheelchair on. The power indicator will illuminate.
    • To turn off, press the power button again.
  2. Driving (Electric Mode):
    • Gently push the joystick in the desired direction (forward, backward, left, right). The wheelchair will move accordingly.

    • Use the speed adjustment buttons on the joystick to select one of the 5 available speed levels. Start with the lowest speed until comfortable.
  3. Reclining Function:

    • Engage the lever and adjust the backrest to your desired angle, up to 180 degrees (lying flat).
    • Release the lever to lock the backrest in position.
  4. Switching to Manual Mode:
    • To allow the wheelchair to be pushed manually, locate the clutch levers on the rear wheels.
    • Disengage the clutches (usually by pulling them outwards or flipping a lever) on both drive wheels.
    • To re-engage electric mode, push the clutches back into their engaged position.
