1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the OYAYO MIDI Keyboard Controller MK02. This portable 25-key USB MIDI keyboard is designed for music production, offering a range of features including 8 backlit drum pads, 8 assignable knobs, and an OLED display. This manual will guide you through the setup, operation, and maintenance of your device to ensure optimal performance.

3. Key Features

4. Setup

4.1 Powering On/Off

To power on the device, press and hold the power button located on the rear panel. The OLED display will illuminate, indicating the device is active. To power off, press and hold the same button until the display turns off.

4.2 USB Connection

Connect the provided USB-C cable to the Type-C port on the rear of the keyboard and the other end to a USB port on your computer or compatible device. The keyboard will be powered via USB and recognized as a MIDI device by your operating system and DAW.

4.3 Bluetooth (BT) MIDI Connection

The MK02 supports wireless BT MIDI connectivity. To connect:

  1. Ensure the keyboard is powered on.
  2. On your compatible device (e.g., iOS, Android, macOS), navigate to your Bluetooth settings or the MIDI settings within your DAW.
  3. Search for available Bluetooth MIDI devices. The MK02 should appear as "MIDI Keyboard" or similar.
  4. Select the device to pair. Once paired, you can transmit MIDI data wirelessly.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Keys and Pads

The MK02 features 25 velocity-sensitive keys and 8 RGB backlit velocity-sensitive drum pads. The velocity sensitivity allows for dynamic expression in your playing. The drum pads can be used to trigger samples, drums, or other sounds within your DAW.

5.2 Assignable Rotary Encoders

The 8 rotary encoders can be assigned to control various parameters in your DAW, such as volume, pan, filter cutoff, or effects send levels. Refer to your DAW's manual for specific instructions on MIDI mapping.

5.3 OLED Display

The high-definition OLED display provides clear visual feedback on the current settings and parameters, including arpeggio settings, velocity, and tempo. This allows for precise adjustments during your music production process.

5.4 Touch Strips (Pitch Bend & Vibrato)

The two touch strips function as pitch bend and vibrato controls, allowing for expressive modulation of your sounds. Slide your finger along the strips to apply these effects.

5.5 Octave and Transpose Functions

Use the dedicated Octave and Transpose buttons to shift the pitch of the keyboard up or down, expanding the playable range beyond the 25 physical keys.

5.6 Arpeggio, Note Repeat, and Chord Functions

The MK02 includes advanced functions to enhance your creativity:

  • Arpeggio: Creates rhythmic patterns from held notes.
  • Note Repeat: Automatically repeats notes or drum hits at a set tempo.
  • Chord Function: Allows you to play full chords with a single key press.

6. Connectivity

In addition to USB and Bluetooth, the MK02 offers further connectivity options:

  • MIDI Out: Connect to external MIDI hardware using a standard MIDI cable (not included).
  • Pedal Input: Connect a sustain pedal (not included) for enhanced piano-style playing.

7. Compatibility

9. Troubleshooting

  • No Sound Output:
    • Ensure the keyboard is properly connected to your computer/device via USB or Bluetooth.
    • Verify that your DAW or music software is open and correctly configured to receive MIDI input from the MK02.
    • Check that an instrument track is armed for recording and a virtual instrument is loaded.
    • Adjust the volume levels in your DAW and on your computer.
  • Pads/Keys Not Responding:
    • Confirm the keyboard is powered on.
    • Check USB or Bluetooth connection.
    • Ensure the correct MIDI channel is selected in your DAW.
    • If pads require hard presses, check for any sensitivity settings within your DAW or on the device (if available).
  • Bluetooth Connection Issues:
    • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your host device.
    • Try unpairing and re-pairing the device.
    • Ensure no other devices are interfering with the Bluetooth signal.
    • Restart both the keyboard and your host device.
  • OLED Display Not Working:
    • Ensure the keyboard is powered on.
    • If the issue persists, contact customer support.

10. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the surface of the keyboard. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store the keyboard in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Handling: Avoid dropping the device or subjecting it to strong impacts.
