5.4 App Pairing (Tuya/Smart Life APP)

To enable mobile app alerts and remote monitoring, you need to pair the detector with the Tuya or Smart Life app.

  1. Download App: Download and install the "Tuya Smart" or "Smart Life" app from your smartphone's app store (Google Play Store for Android, Apple App Store for iOS).
  2. Register/Login: Open the app and register a new account or log in to an existing one.
  3. Add Device: Ensure your phone's Bluetooth is enabled. In the app, tap the "+" icon to add a new device.
  4. Enter Pairing Mode: On the CO detector, locate the RESET hole (usually on the underside). Use a small pin or paperclip to press and hold the RESET button until the LED light on the detector starts flashing rapidly. This indicates pairing mode.
  5. Connect to Wi-Fi: The app should automatically detect the device. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the detector to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Note: The detector only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
  6. Customize Name/Location: Once paired, you can customize the device name (e.g., "Living Room CO Detector") and assign it to a specific room within the app for easier identification of alerts.

6. Operating the Detector

6.1 Normal Operation

Once installed and powered on, the detector continuously monitors carbon monoxide levels in the air. The LED indicator will typically be off or flash periodically (e.g., every 30 seconds) to indicate normal operation, depending on the specific model's design. Refer to the small instruction leaflet included with the product for exact LED behavior.

6.2 Testing the Alarm

It is recommended to test the alarm weekly to ensure proper functionality.

  1. Press Test/Hush Button: Locate the "PUSH TO TEST/HUSH" button on the cover of the unit.
  2. Activate Alarm: Press and hold the button until the alarm sounds. The unit may continue to alarm for a few seconds after you release the button.
  3. Verify App Notification: If paired with the app, you should receive a notification on your smartphone indicating a test alarm.
  4. Troubleshoot if No Alarm: If the alarm does not sound, ensure the unit is receiving power (battery is installed correctly) and test it again. If it still fails, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

6.3 Alarm Conditions and Actions

In the event of a carbon monoxide detection:

If the alarm sounds:

  1. Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows to ventilate the area.
  2. Do not re-enter the premises until the alarm has stopped and the area has been thoroughly ventilated.
  3. Call your emergency services (e.g., 911 or local gas company) if you suspect a CO leak.
  4. Identify and correct the source of carbon monoxide.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning the Detector

Clean the detector regularly to prevent dust and debris from interfering with its operation.

7.2 Battery Replacement

The detector features a low-battery warning function. When the battery is low, the device will emit a chirp or flash a specific LED pattern (refer to the small instruction leaflet for exact indication) and send a notification to your mobile app. Replace the battery promptly when this occurs.

  1. Twist the detector counter-clockwise to remove it from the mounting bracket.
  2. Open the battery compartment.
  3. Remove the old CR123A battery.
  4. Insert a new CR123A battery, observing correct polarity.
  5. Close the battery compartment and reattach the detector to the mounting bracket.
  6. Test the alarm after battery replacement.

The battery is designed to last for approximately 3 years. The sensor itself has a lifespan of up to 10 years, after which the entire unit should be replaced.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Alarm does not sound during test.No battery, low battery, or faulty unit.Ensure battery is installed correctly. Replace battery if low. If problem persists, replace the unit.
Alarm chirps periodically.Low battery warning.Replace the CR123A battery immediately.
False alarms.Detector placed too close to combustion sources (e.g., stove, furnace), or excessive humidity/dust.Relocate the detector further away from combustion sources (at least 15 feet). Clean the detector. Ensure proper ventilation.
Cannot pair with app.Incorrect Wi-Fi band (not 2.4 GHz), incorrect pairing mode, or network issues.Ensure your Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz. Re-enter pairing mode (rapid flashing LED). Check Wi-Fi signal strength. Restart router/phone.
No app notifications.App permissions, network connectivity, or app settings.Check app notification permissions on your phone. Ensure detector is connected to Wi-Fi. Verify app settings for alerts.
End-of-life signal (if applicable).Sensor has reached its 10-year lifespan.Replace the entire detector unit.
