1. Product Overview
The J-Tech Digital HDMI Audio Extractor is designed to separate audio signals from an HDMI source while passing through the video signal to a display. This device supports video resolutions up to 4K@30Hz and 1080P@60Hz. It provides audio output via Optical SPDIF and analog RCA ports, making it ideal for integrating modern HDMI sources with legacy audio equipment. Additionally, it features HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC) functionality, allowing audio from an ARC-enabled display to be extracted via the Optical port.

4. Setup and Connection
Follow these steps to properly set up your HDMI Audio Extractor:
- Power Connection: Connect the included DC 5V/1A power adapter to the 'DC 5V' port on the extractor and then plug it into a power outlet. The Power LED indicator will illuminate.
- HDMI Input: Connect your HDMI source device (e.g., Blu-ray player, gaming console, streaming box) to the 'HDMI IN' port on the extractor using a high-quality HDMI cable.
- HDMI Output: Connect the 'HDMI OUT' port of the extractor to your display device (e.g., TV, projector) using another high-quality HDMI cable.
- Audio Output (SPDIF): For digital audio, connect the 'SPDIF' optical port on the extractor to your external audio system (e.g., soundbar, AV receiver) using an optical cable.
- Audio Output (RCA): For analog stereo audio, connect the 'L' and 'R' RCA ports on the extractor to your external audio system (e.g., stereo amplifier, powered speakers) using RCA cables.
- HDMI-ARC Function (Optional): If your display supports HDMI-ARC, connect the HDMI-ARC port of your display to the 'HDMI OUT' port of the extractor. Press the 'ARC' button on the extractor to enable this function. The ARC indicator light will turn green. Note that when using ARC, audio can only be extracted via the Optical port, not the RCA port.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Audio Extraction Function
The primary function of this device is to extract audio from an incoming HDMI signal. Once connected as described in Section 4, the video signal will pass through to your display, and the audio will be simultaneously available on both the SPDIF Optical and RCA L/R outputs. This allows you to send high-quality audio to a separate sound system.

5.2 HDMI-ARC Function
The Audio Return Channel (ARC) allows audio from your TV's built-in tuner or smart TV apps to be sent back to the audio extractor via the HDMI cable, eliminating the need for a separate audio cable. To enable ARC:
- Ensure your TV's HDMI port is ARC-enabled and connected to the extractor's 'HDMI OUT' port.
- Press the 'ARC' button on the extractor. The ARC LED indicator will light up green.
- Audio will be output through the SPDIF Optical port. Note: ARC audio is only available via the Optical port, not the RCA L/R ports.

5.3 EDID Settings
The extractor features three EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) management settings to optimize audio format compatibility:
- ADV (EDID Pass-through): In this mode, the extractor passes the EDID information directly from the connected display to the HDMI source. This allows the source to output the audio format best supported by your display and connected audio system.
- 5.1CH: Forces the HDMI source to output 5.1 channel digital audio. This is suitable for systems supporting Dolby Digital, DTS, or LPCM 5.1 via the Optical SPDIF output.
- 2CH: Forces the HDMI source to output 2-channel stereo audio. This is suitable for systems using the RCA L/R analog output or 2-channel audio via SPDIF.
Use the 'Audio Mode Switch Button' on the front panel to cycle through these EDID settings.

5.4 Resolution Support
The extractor supports video pass-through up to 4K@30Hz and 1080P@60Hz, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of modern displays and source devices.

6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your J-Tech Digital HDMI Audio Extractor, please follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays, as they may damage the unit.
- Placement: Place the device in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, and areas with high humidity or dust.
- Handling: Handle the device with care. Avoid dropping or subjecting it to strong impacts.
- Power: Disconnect the power adapter from the wall outlet if the device will not be used for an extended period.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your HDMI Audio Extractor, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
7.1 No Sound from Optical Output Port
- Ensure that the Audio Format on your input source device is set to Stereo, DTS, or standard Dolby Digital. Optical output does not support Dolby Digital Plus (DD+).
- Check that the EDID switch on the extractor is set to the correct position (e.g., 5.1CH for surround sound, 2CH for stereo, or ADV for pass-through).
- Verify the optical cable for functionality and ensure it is securely connected at both ends.

Image 7.1: Troubleshooting steps for resolving no sound from the optical output, focusing on input source audio format settings (Stereo, DTS, Dolby Digital supported) and EDID switch position.
7.2 No Sound from RCA L/R Output Port
- Ensure that the Audio Format on your input source device is set to Stereo (PCM). RCA output only supports 2-channel stereo audio.
- Check that the EDID switch on the extractor is set to the '2CH' position.
- Verify your 3.5mm audio cable (if using an adapter) or RCA cables for functionality and secure connection.

Image 7.2: Troubleshooting steps for resolving no sound from the RCA L/R output, emphasizing that the input source audio format must be Stereo and the EDID switch should be set to 2CH.
7.3 No Video Output
- Ensure all HDMI cables are securely connected and are of high quality, especially for 4K signals.
- Verify that the power adapter is correctly connected and the Power LED is on.
- Try connecting the HDMI source directly to the display to confirm the source and display are functioning correctly.
- Cycle the power on all connected devices (source, extractor, display).
