Important Safeguards and Operating Instructions

1. Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  1. Read all instructions before operating the coffee maker.
  2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles and knobs.
  3. To protect against electric shock, do not place cord, plug, or coffee maker in water or other liquids.
  4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  5. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest Cuisinart Repair Center for examination, repair, or adjustment.
  7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Cuisinart may cause injuries.
  8. Do not use outdoors.
  9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  11. Always fill the water reservoir first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to 'off', then remove plug from wall outlet.
  12. Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  13. Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycle.
  14. The glass carafe is designed for use with this coffee maker only. It must never be used on a range top.
  15. Do not set a hot carafe on a wet or cold surface.
  16. Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle.
  17. Do not clean carafe or heating plate with abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  18. Keep hands and cords away from hot plate during operation.
  19. This appliance is for household use only.

3. Setup

Before First Use

  1. Unpack: Carefully unpack the coffee maker and remove all packaging materials.
  2. Clean Components: Wash the glass carafe, carafe lid, filter basket, and integrated coffee scoop in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  3. Install Charcoal Water Filter: If using the charcoal water filter, soak it in cold tap water for 15 minutes. Insert the filter into the filter holder, then place the filter holder into the water reservoir.
  4. First Brew Cycle (Water Only): Fill the water reservoir to the 5-cup mark with fresh, cold water. Place the empty filter basket (with or without the permanent filter) and the carafe with its lid on the heating plate. Press the Brew button to start a cycle. This cleans the internal components. Discard the water after the cycle.

4. Operation

Brewing Coffee

  1. Fill Water Reservoir: Remove the water reservoir and fill it with the desired amount of fresh, cold water. The reservoir has measurement guides for hot or over-ice brewing. Replace the reservoir securely.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the permanent style nylon coffee filter (or a #4 cone paper filter) into the filter basket. Use the integrated scoop to add the desired amount of ground coffee. For best results, use 1 level scoop per cup.
  3. Position Carafe: Ensure the glass carafe with its lid is properly placed on the heating plate.
  4. Start Brewing: Press the 'Brew' button. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
  5. Brew Pause™ Feature: The Brew Pause™ feature allows you to temporarily stop the flow of coffee from the filter basket to pour a cup before the brewing cycle is complete. Replace the carafe within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.
  6. Keep Warm Feature: After brewing, the heating plate will keep the coffee warm for 30 minutes before automatically shutting off.

5. Cleaning & Maintenance

Daily Cleaning

  • Always unplug the coffee maker from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
  • Wash the glass carafe, carafe lid, filter basket, and integrated coffee scoop in warm, soapy water. These parts are not dishwasher safe.
  • Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Do not immerse the coffee maker base in water or other liquids.

Decalcification

Mineral deposits (calcium/lime) can build up in your coffee maker and affect its performance. To decalcify, follow these steps:

  1. Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
  2. Press the 'Brew' button and allow the mixture to brew through the unit.
  3. Once the cycle is complete, repeat the process with fresh, cold water to rinse out any remaining vinegar.
  4. Perform decalcification every 3-6 months, depending on water hardness.

Charcoal Water Filter Replacement

The charcoal water filter should be replaced every 60 days or after 60 uses, or more often if you have hard water.

6. Troubleshooting
