It is designed to integrate seamlessly with a FRITZ!Box and other FRITZ! products, supporting WLAN Mesh for a unified and powerful home network experience. The device features intelligent power management to optimize energy consumption.

Setup

Follow these steps to set up your FRITZ!Powerline 1240 AX Extra Adapter:

  1. Initial Connection: Plug the FRITZ!Powerline 1240 AX adapter into a wall socket. If you are setting up a new Powerline network, connect the FRITZ!Powerline 1210 (if included in your set) to your FRITZ!Box via a LAN cable and then plug it into a wall socket near the FRITZ!Box.Diagram showing a FRITZ!Powerline adapter connected to a router via LAN cable, and another adapter extending the network to other rooms via electrical wiring.

  4. Wi-Fi Setup: For Wi-Fi devices, the FRITZ!Powerline 1240 AX acts as a Wi-Fi 6 access point. If integrated into a FRITZ!Box Mesh network, Wi-Fi settings (SSID, password, radio channel) will be automatically synchronized. You can also connect Wi-Fi devices easily using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) by pressing the WPS button on the adapter and then on your Wi-Fi device.

Operating Instructions

The FRITZ!Powerline 1240 AX provides both wired and wireless network connectivity:

  • Powerline Connection: The adapter uses your home's electrical wiring to transmit network data at speeds up to 1200 Mbps, utilizing HomePlug AV standard with 2x2 MIMO technology for robust connections.
  • Wi-Fi 6 Access Point: It functions as a Wi-Fi 6 access point, extending your wireless network coverage. It supports 2.4 GHz with speeds up to 600 Mbit/s.
  • LAN Ports: Connect wired devices such as PCs, game consoles, or smart TVs directly to the adapter's Gigabit LAN ports.
  • FRITZ!OS and Mesh: When used with a FRITZ!Box, the adapter becomes part of a WLAN Mesh network. This ensures that all FRITZ! products in your network share the same Wi-Fi settings and work together to provide optimal coverage and performance.
  • Security: The network connection is secured with WPA2 encryption for Wi-Fi and 128-bit AES encryption for Powerline communication.

Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your FRITZ!Powerline 1240 AX adapter:

  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates for your FRITZ!Box and Powerline adapters. These updates often include performance improvements, security enhancements, and new features. You can usually find these on the AVM website or through your FRITZ!Box interface.
  • Cleaning: Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Power Management: The adapter features intelligent power management. It automatically adjusts power consumption based on network activity. For further energy savings, utilize the Wi-Fi timer function available through your FRITZ!Box settings to switch off Wi-Fi during specific times.
  • Placement: Ensure the adapter is plugged directly into a wall socket, not into a power strip or extension cord, as this can degrade Powerline performance.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your FRITZ!Powerline 1240 AX adapter, consider the following:

  • No Powerline Connection (Powerline LED off/flashing):
    • Ensure both Powerline adapters are plugged directly into wall sockets and powered on.
    • Try plugging the adapters into different wall sockets within the same electrical circuit.
    • Re-initiate the pairing process by pressing the "Connect" button on both adapters as described in the Setup section.
    • Avoid plugging adapters into power strips, surge protectors, or extension cords, as these can interfere with the Powerline signal.
  • No Wi-Fi Connection (WLAN LED off/flashing):
    • Check if Wi-Fi is enabled on the adapter. If part of a FRITZ!Box Mesh, ensure Wi-Fi is active on the FRITZ!Box.
    • Verify that the Wi-Fi settings (SSID, password) are correct on your devices.
    • Try pressing the WPS button on the adapter to connect your Wi-Fi device.
    • Ensure the adapter is within range of your Wi-Fi devices.
  • Slow Network Speed:
    • Powerline performance can be affected by electrical interference. Try moving the adapter to a different wall socket.
    • Ensure the adapter is not plugged into a power strip with other high-power electrical devices.
    • Check the quality of your electrical wiring. Older or complex wiring can reduce performance.
    • Verify that your FRITZ!Box firmware and Powerline adapter firmware are up to date.
  • LAN Port Not Working:
    • Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the adapter and your device.
    • Try a different Ethernet cable.
    • Check the device connected to the LAN port to ensure its network settings are correct.
