3.3 Installation Steps
Follow these steps for a successful installation. Refer to the installation video for visual guidance.
Video 3.2: Akicon Bathroom Fan Light Installation (Model AK1480NL-BN). This video provides a step-by-step guide for installing the fan.
- Prepare the Opening: Starting next to a joist, trace an outline for the housing. Use a drywall saw to cut the opening to the specified size (8-1/2" x 8-5/16").
- Secure the Housing: If installing from above (attic access), screw the housing into the joists. If installing from below (no attic access), remove the motor from the housing first by disconnecting wires and removing fixing screws. Then, send the housing into the ceiling and secure it to the joist.
- Connect Ductwork: Attach the ventilation duct to the fan's exhaust port and apply HVAC tape over the connection to ensure an airtight seal.
- Electrical Connections: Connect the house wires to the fan wires. Remember: black to black (live), white to white (neutral), and green/bare copper to green (ground). A neutral wire is needed.
- Reinstall Motor (if removed): If the motor was removed for no-attic installation, reinstall it back into the housing and connect the plugs.
- Install Grille and Light: Connect the wires of the LED light. Install the two-layer grille onto the housing using the attached screws. Finally, install the frosted plastic lens onto the grille.
