Operating Instructions
This utility knife is designed for quick and efficient operation.
- Opening the Knife: Press the side button release and flick the blade open. It will lock into either the 135-degree or 180-degree position. Ensure the blade is fully locked before applying pressure.
- Using Dual Locking Positions: The 135-degree position is ideal for ergonomic cutting, reducing wrist strain for certain tasks. The 180-degree position provides a straight, full-length blade for standard cutting.
- Using the Strap Cutting Slot: The knife features a strap cutting slot at the end of the handle. With the knife closed, insert the strap into the slot and pull to cut. This allows for safe cutting without exposing the main blade.
- Closing the Knife: Press the side button release and fold the blade back into the handle until it is fully closed and secured.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your utility knife.
- Blade Replacement: Replace blades regularly as they become dull to maintain cutting efficiency and safety. Refer to the "Setup: Blade Installation and Replacement" section for detailed instructions.
- Cleaning: Keep the knife clean from debris, dust, and moisture. Use a dry cloth to wipe down the handle and blade holder. Avoid using harsh chemicals that may damage the materials.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of light oil to the pivot points to ensure smooth opening and closing action.
- Storage: Store the knife in a dry place, away from extreme temperatures and corrosive environments. Always store with the blade closed.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your utility knife, consider the following common solutions:
- Blade not locking securely: Ensure the blade is correctly seated in the holder. Check for any debris obstructing the locking mechanism. If the issue persists, replace the blade.
- Difficulty opening/closing: Clean any dirt or debris from the pivot points and the side button release mechanism. Apply a small amount of lubricant if necessary.
- Dull blade: Replace the blade immediately. A dull blade requires more force to cut, increasing the risk of injury.
If problems persist after attempting these solutions, please contact Klein Tools customer support.
