Setup and Refilling Instructions
The Fuel Keg cylinder arrives EMPTY and must be filled before use. It can only be filled using the Mr. Heater Fuel Keg Propane Tank Refill Kit (F200049), which is sold separately. Always perform refilling outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources.
Required Equipment:
- Mr. Heater Fuel Keg 1 lb. Refillable Propane Tank (F200048)
- Mr. Heater Fuel Keg Propane Tank Refill Kit (F200049)
- Standard 20 lb. propane cylinder (full)
Refilling Procedure:
- Prepare the 20 lb. Cylinder: Place the 20 lb. propane cylinder upside down on a stable surface, ensuring it is securely supported. The refill kit often includes a stand for this purpose.
- Connect the Refill Kit: Attach the refill kit's large end to the 20 lb. propane cylinder and the smaller end to the Mr. Heater Fuel Keg. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
- Open 20 lb. Cylinder Valve: Slowly open the valve on the 20 lb. propane cylinder.
- Vent the Fuel Keg: Locate the bleed screw on the Fuel Keg's valve. Slowly turn the bleed screw counter-clockwise to open it. You will hear a hissing sound as air is vented from the Fuel Keg. This allows liquid propane to enter.
- Fill the Fuel Keg: Continue venting until liquid propane starts to escape from the bleed screw, indicating the tank is full. This process typically takes about 60 seconds.
- Close Valves: First, close the bleed screw on the Fuel Keg. Then, close the valve on the 20 lb. propane cylinder.
- Disconnect: Carefully disconnect the refill kit from both cylinders. Check for any leaks using a soapy water solution.

Operating the Fuel Keg
The Mr. Heater Fuel Keg is compatible with any heater, grill, or appliance that uses a standard 1 lb. propane tank. Ensure your appliance is designed for propane gas and is in good working condition.
Connecting to an Appliance:
- Ensure the appliance's valve is in the "off" position.
- Screw the Fuel Keg onto the appliance's propane inlet. Hand-tighten only. Do not overtighten.
- Check for leaks by applying a soapy water solution to the connection point. If bubbles appear, tighten the connection or replace the Fuel Keg if the leak persists.
- Once securely connected and leak-free, you may proceed to operate your appliance according to its specific instructions.

Maintenance and Care
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Mr. Heater Fuel Keg.
- Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the tank for any signs of rust, damage, or dents. Do not use a damaged tank.
- Valve Care: Keep the valve clean and free from debris. Ensure the bleed screw operates smoothly.
- Storage: Store the Fuel Keg in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and ignition sources.
- DOT Certification: This product is DOT-Certified for use for 12 years from the date of purchase. After this period, the tank should be professionally inspected and recertified or disposed of in a legal and safe manner.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Fuel Keg, consider the following:
- Tank Not Filling: Ensure the 20 lb. cylinder is inverted and the refill kit is properly connected. Make sure the bleed screw on the Fuel Keg is open during refilling to allow air to escape.
- Propane Leak: If you detect a propane smell or hear a hissing sound, immediately turn off all valves. Check all connections for tightness. Apply soapy water to connections; if bubbles form, a leak is present. Do not use the tank if a leak cannot be stopped. Let the tank burn out in a safe, outdoor area away from ignition sources.
- Appliance Not Igniting: Ensure the Fuel Keg is securely attached to the appliance and its valve is open. Check the appliance's own fuel supply and ignition system.
