The integrated power cable is designed for durability and includes a right-angle plug for convenient installation in various outdoor receptacles. The device's housing is constructed from UL94-V0 flame-retardant PC material, ensuring safety and longevity.

4. Setup

4.1 Initial Installation

  1. Choose a Location: Select an outdoor location with good Wi-Fi coverage. The device is IP65 rated for weather resistance, but it is recommended to install it with the outlets facing downwards to prevent water accumulation.
  2. Mount the Device: Securely attach the smart plug to a wall outlet using the included mounting clamp and screw. This ensures stability, especially when plugging and unplugging devices.
  3. Plug In: Connect the smart plug to a standard 125V AC outdoor receptacle.

4.2 App Setup and Pairing

  1. Download the Tapo App: Scan the QR code on the device or in the Quick Start Guide, or search for 'Tapo' in your mobile app store (Apple App Store or Google Play Store).
  2. Create an Account: Follow the in-app instructions to create a Tapo account or log in if you already have one.
  3. Add Device: In the Tapo app, tap the '+' icon to add a new device. Select your Tapo P400M from the list.
  4. Connect to Wi-Fi: Follow the app's prompts to connect the smart plug to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Ensure your phone is connected to the same 2.4GHz network during setup.
  5. Matter Integration: As a Matter-certified device, the Tapo P400M can be easily integrated with other Matter-compatible smart home platforms such as Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings. Follow the specific instructions within your preferred smart home app to add the device using the Matter pairing code provided in the Tapo app or on the device itself.

5. Operating the Smart Plug

5.1 Manual Control

Each outlet on the Tapo P400M has a dedicated physical button on the top of the device. Pressing these buttons will manually toggle the power for the corresponding outlet (Plug 1 or Plug 2) on or off. LED indicators next to each button will show the current status (on/off).

5.2 App Control

Using the Tapo app, you can control each outlet individually from anywhere with an internet connection. The app allows you to:
