Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the safe and proper installation and use of the Eastman 24 Inch x 1/2 Inch OD Gas Log Installation Kit. This kit is designed to connect gas log kits and space heaters to a shut-off valve for both natural gas and liquid propane applications. Please read all instructions carefully before beginning installation.

Note: A shut-off valve is NOT included in this kit and must be purchased separately.

Installation Instructions

Follow these steps carefully to ensure a safe and secure connection:

1. Prepare the Area: Ensure the work area is well-ventilated. Turn off the gas supply to the appliance at the main shut-off valve.
2. Clean Threads: Thoroughly clean the pipe threads on both the shut-off valve and the appliance connection point.
3. Apply Thread Sealant: Apply the provided thread sealant to the male pipe threads of the steel fittings. Do NOT apply thread sealant to flared ends.
4. Connect to Shut-Off Valve: Thread the appropriate steel fitting (e.g., 3/8 inch MIP or 1/2 inch MIP) onto the manual shut-off valve. Tighten securely with a wrench, but do not overtighten.
5. Connect Gas Log Connector: Attach one end of the 24-inch epoxy-coated gas log connector to the fitting on the shut-off valve.
6. Connect to Appliance: Attach the other end of the gas log connector to the gas inlet of your appliance (gas log, space heater, etc.). Use the appropriate FIP fitting if necessary.
7. Check for Leaks: Once all connections are made and tightened, slowly turn on the gas supply at the main valve. Apply the leak detector solution to all new connections. Bubbles indicate a gas leak. If bubbles appear, turn off the gas immediately, tighten the connection, and re-test. Repeat until no bubbles are present.
8. Final Check: Ensure all connections are tight and leak-free before operating the appliance.

Operation

Once the Eastman Gas Log Installation Kit is correctly installed and all connections are verified to be leak-free, you may operate your gas appliance according to its manufacturer's instructions. This kit provides the necessary gas flow for appliances up to 85,000 BTUs.

Maintenance

• Periodically inspect the gas connector hose for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion.
• Check connections for tightness and re-apply leak detector solution annually or if you suspect a leak.
• The epoxy coating provides protection against rust, chemical stains, and UV exposure, but avoid harsh abrasive cleaners.
• If any damage is observed, turn off the gas supply immediately and replace the connector.

Troubleshooting

• Gas Leak Detected (Bubbles with solution): Turn off gas supply immediately. Re-tighten all connections. Re-apply thread sealant if necessary (on non-flared threads). Re-test with leak detector solution. If the leak persists, replace the faulty component or consult a qualified professional.
• No Gas Flow to Appliance: Ensure the main gas supply valve and any appliance-specific shut-off valves are fully open. Check for kinks or damage in the gas connector hose. Verify the appliance itself is functioning correctly.
