1. Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your JBL MA754 High-Performance 4-Channel Marine Amplifier. The MA754 is designed to deliver powerful audio output for marine environments, offering flexible configuration options including 2-channel bridged mode for subwoofers or 3-channel mode for a combination of full-range speakers and a subwoofer. It supports both preamp and speaker-level inputs for broad compatibility with various audio systems. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use to ensure proper function and safety.
2. Safety Information
Important Safety Instructions:
- Always disconnect the vehicle's battery negative terminal before installing or servicing any audio equipment.
- Ensure all wiring is properly routed and secured to prevent damage from moving parts or sharp edges.
- Use appropriate gauge wiring for power and ground connections as specified in the installation section to prevent overheating and potential fire hazards.
- Install the amplifier in a location that is protected from direct water exposure, excessive heat, and vibration.
- Do not operate the amplifier if it has been exposed to water or moisture. Seek professional service.
- Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

4. Product Features
The JBL MA754 Marine Amplifier incorporates several features designed for optimal performance and durability in marine environments:
- Compact Size: Features a low-profile chassis and small footprint for installation in limited spaces.
- High and Low-Level Inputs: Compatible with both aftermarket and factory marine stereo systems via speaker-level and low-level (RCA) inputs.
- Variable Crossover and Bass Boost: Allows for precise system tuning with adjustable electronic crossovers and bass boost circuits.
- Low Noise and Distortion: Engineered with Balanced Differential Inputs to minimize noise and distortion, even at high output levels, and reduce line-induced radiated engine noise.
- Input Level Control: Adjustable input sensitivity (200mVrms to 4Vrms for low-level, 1Vrms to 22Vrms for high-level inputs).
- Full On-Board Protection: Integrated circuitry protects against shorts, high temperature, overvoltage, and undervoltage. An LED indicator signals protection mode activation.

5. Installation
5.1 Mounting Location
Choose a mounting location that is dry, well-ventilated, and protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Ensure sufficient space around the amplifier for proper cooling. The amplifier should be securely mounted to a solid surface using the provided mounting screws.

5.2 Wiring Connections
All wiring connections should be made with the vehicle's battery disconnected.
- Power (BATT+): Connect a direct wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the amplifier's BATT+ terminal. Use an appropriate fuse holder (not supplied) near the battery.
- Ground (GND): Connect a short, heavy-gauge wire from the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the boat's chassis or a dedicated ground bus.
- Remote (REM): Connect a wire from your head unit's remote output to the amplifier's REM terminal. This turns the amplifier on and off with your stereo.
- Input Connections:
- Low-Level (RCA): Connect RCA cables from your head unit's preamp outputs to the amplifier's RCA input jacks.
- High-Level (Speaker-Level): If your head unit does not have RCA outputs, use the supplied bare wire-to-RCA adapters to connect your head unit's speaker outputs to the amplifier's RCA input jacks.
- Speaker Outputs: Connect your speakers to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). Refer to the amplifier's specifications for minimum impedance loads.

6. Operation and Adjustments
The JBL MA754 features various controls to optimize audio performance. These controls are typically located under a protective cover.

6.1 Input Level Control (Gain)
Adjust the input level (gain) to match the output of your head unit. Start with the gain set to minimum and slowly increase it until you hear distortion, then back off slightly.
- For low-level (RCA) inputs: Adjust between 200mVrms and 4Vrms.
- For high-level (speaker-level) inputs: Adjust between 1Vrms and 22Vrms.
6.2 Crossover Settings
The MA754 features separate high-pass (HPF) and low-pass (LPF) crossovers for the front and rear channels.
- High-Pass Filter (HPF): Allows frequencies above the set point to pass through to the speakers. Useful for full-range speakers to prevent distortion from low bass frequencies.
- Low-Pass Filter (LPF): Allows frequencies below the set point to pass through. Essential for subwoofers to reproduce only bass frequencies.
- Full Range: Bypasses the crossover, allowing all frequencies to pass.
Adjust these settings based on your speaker types and desired sound.
6.3 Bridged Mode Configuration
The MA754 can be configured for bridged operation to deliver higher power output to fewer channels.
- 2-Channel Bridged Mode: Combines two channels to drive a single subwoofer with increased power (e.g., 200 watts RMS at 4 ohms).
- 3-Channel Mode: Combines two channels for a subwoofer and uses the remaining two channels for full-range speakers.
Refer to the wiring diagram in the full owner's manual for specific bridging instructions and minimum impedance requirements.
7. Maintenance
To ensure long-lasting performance from your JBL MA754 amplifier:
- Keep the amplifier clean and free of dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
- Ensure the amplifier's ventilation fins are not obstructed to allow for proper heat dissipation.
- Avoid exposing the amplifier to extreme temperatures or direct water spray.
