2. Important Safety Instructions
When using an electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:
- Read all instructions before using this sewing machine.
- Keep these instructions in a convenient place near the machine.
- Always unplug the sewing machine from the electrical outlet immediately after using and before cleaning, removing covers, or making any user servicing adjustments.
- Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when this sewing machine is used by or near children.
- Use this product only for its intended use as described in this manual.
- Never operate this sewing machine if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water.
- Never drop or insert any object into any opening.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not operate where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is being administered.

4. Machine Components Overview
Familiarize yourself with the main parts of your sewing machine:

5. Initial Setup
5.1 Power Connection
- Ensure the machine's power switch is in the OFF position.
- Insert the power cord plug into the machine's power socket.
- Insert the foot controller plug into the foot controller socket on the machine.
- Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.
5.2 Winding the Bobbin
- Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
- Guide the thread through the upper thread guide and around the bobbin winding tension disc.
- Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle.
- Wrap the thread clockwise around the bobbin a few times.
- Push the bobbin winder spindle to the right.
- Gently press the foot controller to start winding. Stop when the bobbin is full.
- Cut the thread and push the bobbin winder spindle back to the left.
5.3 Threading the Upper Thread
- Raise the presser foot lifter.
- Place the thread spool on the spool pin.
- Follow the numbered threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through all guides and tension discs.
- Bring the thread down through the needle bar thread guide.
- Use the automatic needle threader or manually thread the needle from front to back.
5.4 Inserting the Bobbin
- Open the bobbin cover plate.
- Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case, ensuring the thread unwinds in the correct direction (usually counter-clockwise).
- Guide the bobbin thread through the tension spring and into the thread guide slot.
- Close the bobbin cover plate.
- Hold the upper thread, turn the handwheel towards you to lower and raise the needle, catching the bobbin thread. Pull both threads under the presser foot.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Stitch Selection
Turn on the machine. The LCD display will show the default stitch. Use the stitch selection buttons (usually up/down arrows or a dial) to scroll through the 80 built-in stitch patterns. The display will show the selected stitch number and recommended length/width settings. You can adjust these settings using the dedicated length and width adjustment buttons.
6.2 Basic Sewing
- Place your fabric under the presser foot, aligning the edge with a seam guide.
- Lower the presser foot.
- Gently press the foot controller to start sewing. The harder you press, the faster the machine will sew.
- To secure the beginning and end of a seam, press the reverse stitch button.
- When finished, raise the needle to its highest position, lift the presser foot, and pull the fabric away.
- Use the built-in thread cutter to trim the threads.
6.3 Creating Buttonholes
The SINGER C5205 features 6 one-step buttonhole styles.
- Attach the one-step buttonhole foot.
- Place the button you intend to use into the buttonhole foot's sizing mechanism.
- Select the desired buttonhole stitch on the LCD display.
- Position your fabric and lower the presser foot.
- Begin sewing. The machine will automatically sew the buttonhole to the correct size.
6.4 Using Different Presser Feet
Your machine comes with 8 specialized presser feet for various applications:
- All-Purpose Foot: For general sewing.
- Zipper Foot: For inserting zippers.
- Buttonhole Foot: For automatic buttonholes.
- Blind Hem Foot: For invisible hems.
- Satin Stitch Foot: For dense decorative stitches.
- Overcasting Foot: For finishing seam edges.
- Roller Foot: For difficult fabrics like leather or vinyl.
- Quilting/Patchwork Foot: For precise seam allowances in quilting.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning the Bobbin Area
Lint and dust can accumulate in the bobbin area, affecting stitch quality. Regularly clean this area:
- Turn off and unplug the machine.
- Remove the needle plate and bobbin case.
- Use a small brush to remove lint and dust from the feed dogs and bobbin area. Do not use compressed air, as it can push lint further into the machine.
- Reassemble the bobbin case and needle plate.
7.2 Changing the Needle
A dull or bent needle can cause skipped stitches or thread breakage. Change the needle regularly, especially after 8-10 hours of sewing or when starting a new project.
- Turn off and unplug the machine.
- Loosen the needle clamp screw.
- Remove the old needle.
- Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back of the machine, pushing it up as far as it will go.
- Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
